BUG Review
There is not much in the way of charm at this centrally-located hostel, but it is functional and secure. Local event posters and used car flyers decorate the cramped reception area. Hallways are on the dim and dingy side, and could definitely use new carpeting. The accommodation is in spartan rooms with foam mattresses on the bunks. On the plus side, Melbourne International Backpackers is reasonably clean, has a decent TV lounge and kitchen facilities, and security is very good with lockers for all beds, 24-hour reception, video surveillance, and key card access to the building and rooms. It’s located near Melbourne Central shopping centre and Queen Victoria Market. The entrance is on Franklin Street.
Price Dorm bed $23-27 ($22-26 VIP) Double/twin room $67-74 ($65-72 VIP) Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.
After I stayed in the Flinders station backpacker and the Exford Hotel, the staff recommended their latest hostel. It was a disaster. I had one night an argument with the cleaner about the rules and it ended in a real aussie "i know it better then you" arguement. The next day I was asked to leave the hostel. The cleaning lady blew up her story and so i left. Later I came back to talk to the lady manager and explained what happened. The manager said I was right, she even appologised but I could not get a refund for the money I lost. This is what bothers me, after I stayed in total 6 months in Melbourne and I was always a good guest, how can they do like this. In each hotel of them, the staff thinks they are above you and the management back them up, weird. Go to the Greenhouse, it is a little expensive but professional.

Stayed here for one month in four share room. The rooms were clean and you could get clean sheets whenever you needed without hassel. The kitchen was big and always very clean, same for the bathroom. Great location, easy access to grocery stores and the market.

i found the hostel immaculately clean considering its size and location. the staff were friendly and efficient, whilst maintaining a professional service. fluid oz (the bar underneath) is very clean with good security and reasonable prices. the hostels facilties are limited but are well maintained with many social areas, allowing backpackers to meet new people and chill out. the security of the hostel is very good with constant surveillance from the security team. the location of the hostel is very central to the cities amenities and is ideally located in reference to the local transport system. a generally very well, reasonably priced hostel. good work.

This was a good hostel in the sense that it was right in the middle of Melbourne. It also had the advantage of having a bar underneath. However I found the staff were quite rude and not that accomodating. I also found that the people that it attracted were not very sociable, perhaps I was unlucky. The beds were also very uncomfortable. Also they split up the sexes which was unfortunete seeing as I got lucky one night!!!
