BUG Review
Opposite a church on a quiet residential street, the Melbourne Metro YHA is a serene alternative to Melbourne’s more party-oriented hostels. You can’t quite escape the concrete block, institutional feel of the building itself, but good interior design and attention to detail go a long way towards making the YHA one of Melbourne’s finest. A lovely common area is decorated in rope-wrapped columns and a subdued tan and brown colour scheme. Small TV and reading lounges are nice places to hang out, and there’s a fantastic indoor/outdoor roof area with stunning views of the city, plus all the solar panels atop the building show the eco-friendly nature of this hostel. The dorms feature real mattresses and individual bedside lamps. Internet access (including Wi-Fi) is available for $4 an hour. The YHA is about 15-minutes walk to the city centre and local shops on Errol Street are a five-minute walk away.

I loved this hostel. It was very clean, the staff were very friendly, and it is one of the best YHAs I have stayed in. Only problem is that it's a bit expenisve. The rooms are lovely, quite spacious and very clean. Showers are clean and the kitchen is nice, but little bit small. The bar/cafe area is very good, and you can get good food there. It's a good place to just chill and meet people. Sometimes they have films on the big screen in there, but you can't really hear them coz it's a bit noisy. Very good atmosphere though, lots of backpackers. The location is quiet and it's only a 10-15 minute walk to the city centre. This is a great hostel, I would definitely reccomend it.
Pros:
Friendly, helpful staff, wonderful penthouse lounge
Cons:
Nothing bad to say about it.

Spotlessly clean hostel, really comfortable. Staff who are willing to go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and who know what they are talking about, amazing lounge on the top floor with barbie space and wonderful views of Melbourne. Close to city and just around the corner from Victoria Markets but located on a quiet street so you're guaranteed a peaceful night's sleep.

Not the best YHA, but not bad either, it is clean and tidy and quite well organised with a good kitchen and common area. There is a reasonable atmosphere and the dorms are quite nice. The main problem is its location- most backpackers will probably want to spend time in the south of the city and this is quite a long way from there, although the trams are quite good.If you're arriving from the airport or train station, this place is quite handy to go to and get your bearings- after that you'll probably want to move down to St Kilda or somewhere.

I stayed here for a while during my gap year in Australia in 2001. It was the best hostel I stayed in (and I stayed in a lot!). Most of the staff were extremely friendly and entertaining. The rooms and bathrooms were always clean. There was a good, friendly atmosphere amongst the guests, although you probably wouldn't feel that if you only stayed a few days. The food was quite tasty as I recall, though a bit expensive. (I think it was about 3 quid for egg on toast!!) I would definitely go back here again.

I found it a great place to stay, people are friendly (staff & guests). The facilities are pretty good and its very clean (rooftop space and BBQ are a nice touch). The food isn't bad at all (i dont know what the other guy was complaining about). Its a great location: Not bang in the middle of the action but only a short walk away. I suppose it is a bit pricier than some other hostels but look at what you get for your money. A great place to check out if you need somewhere to stay.

The staff- where very helpful if you were a girl, it also helped if you where good looking they would bend over backwards. e.g looking out the window at you as you left the building. The rooms- small but very clean- beds were comfortable- warmThe position- far away from the action.

As other reviewers have noted, it lacks atmosphere, a bit too big. That aside it is very clean, the bathroom is excellent, rooms are kept very clean. Was very quiet. Staff were helpful. Day trip facilities were very useful, could organise trips without leaving the hostel.

this place has everything you really need, and it's not too far from town. Yeah, you can get a tram, but it's more fun to walk! the hostel was sparklingly clean, with big communal areas, tv, roof-top etc. okay, the rooms are a bit small, but again they are clean and you get your own bedside light and locker! a bit on the expensive side, but i reckon it's worth it for the quality of the place.

The Queensberry Hill YHA is a big, lively place, complete with pool tables and cafeteria. The rooms are clean and medium size. There is a fun rooftop area for gathering with other backpackers. The only real downfall with the hostel is its location. While it is in a rather quiet area, it is a bit far from the downtown Melbourne nightlife and waterfront areas.
