BUG Review
Tiger Backpackers is a basic backpackers’ hostel above an old pub that offers very good value accommodation and it is popular with backpackers working in Melbourne. For the most part it feels a bit dated but there are some areas that have been renovated and many of the rooms have nice polished floorboards. The small TV lounge has old torn furnishings but the dorm rooms are much nicer and have new bunk beds. There is also free internet access, including wireless, and a big old-style bar on the ground floor with a big screen telly and pool table. It is in West Melbourne about a 20-minute walk into the city centre, which is hardly the best location, although it is right across the street from North Melbourne station with regular trains into the city.

i got here and within a week got two shifts at the bar that paid for my rent, i think girls especially will enjoy the work, warm and clean showers and the staff made sure everything was cosy, they stored my backpack away for five weeks when i went travelling, free too. the managers are always giving away free drinks if you pay your rent on time, this place is great

I stayed here for 3 months. The staff helped me with work leads and advice about where to go. This is where you come to find the real Australia. A fantastic bar frequented by locals and tourists. The music videos on the big sceen made Friday nights really jump.

I'll be going back here.....

Thanks to everyone at the Railway for the fun times!.

Can't recommend it highly enough.

At first glance of the building and the walk up the dark, dingy staircase to our room I wanted to cry. It was like something out a horror film, smelt and the fellow residents scared the living shits out of me but when I waled into the room I was pleasantly suprised. Clean, spacious and a cracking view. It turns out the place has only been open to backpackers 5 weeks and I had a wicked time there. Great VFM and the staff would bend over backwards to help however possible. A visit to the 5 dollar all you can eat BBQ is a must. The place has great potential and am sure will become very popular with backpacker in due course.
