BUG Review
Golddust is the best hostel in Kalgoorlie, but it’s a bit pricey for those without Hostelling International or YHA membership. It is clean and relatively well maintained, although the beds aren’t the best. Facilities include two TV rooms, a good kitchen, internet access, a pool table, laundry, a barbecue and a swimming pool. Guests have free use of bicycles.

I came to this place to see whether I could work in Kalgoorlie and stayed for four weeks. Many people in this place work and stay for longer which makes it a great atmosphere since you do not always only have to answer where you are from. Staff was extremely helpful in finding work and the place was clean and tidy (not more than 6 beds in a dorm, clean and great value for 17 bucks).

I had a great time, made enough bucks to go on travelling and can recommend the place to anybody.

Stayed at GoldDust as a cheap accomodation alternatives to the hotels in Kal whilst painting my house to sell (which didn't have power, gas, water connected and had lots of paint fumes) besides being curious about the whole backpackers thing. In general, everything is neat and tidy with friendly staff and quiet, considerate residents, with all the facilities advertised being true and correct. Unfortunately, the room I was given had what turned out to be bed bugs in the pillows and bedding. Worse still, I had an allergic reaction to the bug bites, and as such, my wrists, neck and stomach developed large red welts making me look like I've been bitten by 5 million mosquitoes at once and being very itchy as well. Not a good look back at work the following week. Bit disappointing about that aspect considering the room looked very neat and tidy like everything else. Apparently previous resident brought their own bedding and the tell tale red scratch marks on their body did not register with the staff at the time. Upon notification, staff cleaned out the room thoroughly and I was placed in another room that was neat and tidy as well. Whilst they humbly apologised for what had happened, I would have preferred a partial refund as a token of their sincerity. I would have ranked this place higher if it wasn't for the bed bugs incident. Give this place a go but make sure you thoroughly check the bedding before settling in. Have fun.

This hostel was recently built. Most of the inmates are miners and add to the atmosphere. I think many backpackers are mislead about Kalgoolie and give it a miss, there are so many nightspots and pubs to chose from, there are cheap supermakets nearby. A deli opens around 6.30am across the street. The prospector motorrail from Perth operates daily, you see the Darling Range and Avon River, you get to stop at Meridan for lunch. The best bakery in WA is just opposite the station. New railcars are due to be put to service .Expect to pay about $55 for a 3/4 day tour of underground mining and the main attractions, well worth it if your stuck for time. Most of kalgoolie can be accessed by bikes which the hostel provides. Kalgoolie/Boulder has some of the best examples of 19th century buildings.

The 3 days I stayed were enjoyable .
