BUG Review
Golddust is the best hostel in Kalgoorlie, but it’s a bit pricey for those without Hostelling International or YHA membership. It is clean and relatively well maintained, although the beds aren’t the best. Facilities include two TV rooms, a good kitchen, internet access, a pool table, laundry, a barbecue and a swimming pool. Guests have free use of bicycles.

Stayed at GoldDust as a cheap accomodation alternatives to the hotels in Kal whilst painting my house to sell (which didn't have power, gas, water connected and had lots of paint fumes) besides being curious about the whole backpackers thing. In general, everything is neat and tidy with friendly staff and quiet, considerate residents, with all the facilities advertised being true and correct. Unfortunately, the room I was given had what turned out to be bed bugs in the pillows and bedding. Worse still, I had an allergic reaction to the bug bites, and as such, my wrists, neck and stomach developed large red welts making me look like I've been bitten by 5 million mosquitoes at once and being very itchy as well. Not a good look back at work the following week. Bit disappointing about that aspect considering the room looked very neat and tidy like everything else. Apparently previous resident brought their own bedding and the tell tale red scratch marks on their body did not register with the staff at the time. Upon notification, staff cleaned out the room thoroughly and I was placed in another room that was neat and tidy as well. Whilst they humbly apologised for what had happened, I would have preferred a partial refund as a token of their sincerity. I would have ranked this place higher if it wasn't for the bed bugs incident. Give this place a go but make sure you thoroughly check the bedding before settling in. Have fun.
