BUG Review
This old hotel was transformed into a night club before it finally ended up as a hostel – and Sundancer Resort is an excellent hostel. The cool common areas are big and spacious, neatly decorated by graffiti, photos and paintings. Internet access is free, the kitchen is geared up with all you need to make your meals and it has two TVs, although the television screens steal a bit too much attention from the main common area. However the atmosphere is laid-back and friendly atmosphere and it is a good place to stay.

Overrated dirty hostel, May 9, 2006

This hostel is highly overrated in the travelguides. It's dirty and the rooms are a big mess. Lots of people stay here for a couple of months. It needs a big renovation ! The staff if friendly, but me and my friends ran out after one night and stayed in the YHA instead.

The previous two reviews pretty much hit the nail on the head - it sounds like the place was great when freshly refurbished, but even the lounge/bar area downstairs (the section most care was spent on) is looking pretty rough. The rooms aren't clean, the toilets and showers are generally filthy/decrepit and the noise from downstairs when there's a party on is a joke; all rooms are affected. In it's defence the staff are helpful and the kitchen is clean, but if you're passing through why wouldn't you eat in some of the good restaurants Freo has to offer? I rated it a two because I expected more having had recommendations from others and Rough Guide and thought that people unhappy with a place are first and loudest to let you know. I unhappily join them.

Freo is lovely .... Sundancer is remarkably average. The place looks great on entry but a few days in and you realise it is in need of a spruce over. Kitchen is clean - but the same attention is not given to toilets! (Waited two days for a toilet to be re-stocked with bog roll) and showers really annoying - had to hold up the shower head! The place is quite lively but mostly filled longstayers - and they didn't mix much with the travelling through crowd - pretty clicky in fact! If you're travelling on your own and not planning on staying long - I'd head for a different place, otherwsie it will probably meet your needs.

A party Hostel with good facilities, March 10, 2005

Ok Sundancer has good facilities on paper. Lots of internet stations, 2 pool tables (free most evenings), a table tennis table and a big kitchen, as well as a bar. The decoration is fantastic and original, but now is starting to look a little tired. The place isn't filthy, but neither is it amazingly clean. The kitchen is cleaned thoroughly once a day, but the rooms and especially the bathrooms need more attention than they get. While we were there the jaccuzzi was dirty and un-useable. Also beware, the beautiful open staircase that is the centrepeice of the hostel echoes right up to the third floor, so either take earplugs or be the last one up partying every night!

It's a great place, honest! The facilities are about as good as it gets with a couple of pool tables (free in evening), a big TV/lounging area with DVD and video, a bar, seperate TV/video room and spa outside. Nice. The rooms are clean, the kitchen is big and well stocked. The staff are helpful and there's always stuff going on. The mud wrestling nights are good as well. Oh, sorry, I made that last bit up...

Anyway, what more do you want...?! It seems about the best Freo has to offer, and that's official (So sue me..!!)

Having scouted round nearly every hostel in the Perth area we settled on Sundancer because of its immediate vibe and friendliness as you enter. The staff make you feel like this is your home and they soon become your mates. The open plan design means you are always in the thick of the fun, there's pool, DVD's, music, table-tennis and spa fun to keep you entertained as well as a huge kitchen and sometimes resident chefs to keep you well fed. The rooms are modern, clean, well-equiped and brightly coloured with good bathroom facilities and are well spaced. In the heart of Freo the hostel is ideally placed although most of the time it's more fun staying in than going out. The building is large and old but the atmosphere is quite the opposite. If you want to make loads of friends, have wild but cheap nights and really feel at home somewhere then get the best out of WA by heading for this place.

Staying at Sundancer was like a little luxury in a great part of Perth, especially the heated spa. Fremantle's laid back and quite bohemian got heaps of cafes hotels and nightclubs and the hostel has a great residents bar and atmosphere in a beautiful building. If in Perth don't miss this place.
