Given that it is the only hostel in the city (country?) it would be easy for the owners to do very little and still get a steady clientele. Instead they have worked hard (and continue to do so) to create and maintain a hostel with great character in a really central location.
Much of the character derives from the fact it is a converted period villa - as a result of which some rooms are consequently a little dark, but there are also balconies on which to relax, and a kitchen and garden area in which to cook, (or watch others do so), drink or just relax. There is also space for camping.
The staff are excellent, really helpful and knowledgeable, and there is a really laid-back feel all round.
As with many hostels of this type the showers/bathrooms are effectively functional rather than swish - although Tirana does suffer from both occasional power cuts and water shortages (summer 2007), which the staff do their best to mitigate.
The location is hard to fault - anyone coming in from Pogradec/Elbasan will find themselves passing the front door.
If only there were more hostels like this in general, let alone Albania.
.
Pros:
The helpful & knowledgeable English speaking staff.
Cons:
The ridiculously small hard to see sign. .

This hostel should be a model for all others. The location is close to the center & to decent restaurants. The place is spotlessly clean. The showers & toilets have plenty of hott water. One common room is the well equipped kitchen. Another is a roomy balcony overlooking the garden. A third is a large porch attached to the office where the friendly staff will gladly talk to you. The staff is planning an enlarged garden where guests can get away from Tirana's dust. I stayed five days & felt like I was visiting old friends.
