If anyone found Salsburg the most satisfying place to visit in Austria the staff at this place were almost unhelpful. I recommend to talk to other packers /travellers whilst stying here as the attitude of the staff especially the bloke with the blonde hair and glasses particulary difficult to speak to.To the girl that also felt a need to wite about this place I think it might of been me that walked in on you as I to had 3 girls in my room and really had to be very discreet whilst living with them for 4 days. I to was not asked if I minded. The hot water was good , the breakfast supplied was ok but I sujest you shop at the supermarket to as the meal is not at all a preperation for the days adventure through lovely Salsburg. Food is greatly overpriced in Salsburg. Macdonalds is about cheap as you can get. Buy Bread and Ham and salad and prepare your own. You cannot use the kitchen in this hostel. No Televison. Lifts Open 8 - 9pm Dont get stuck in Salsburg cbd after 9pm in the rain it is a 10 euro taxi fair or a long way back up the stairs through the forests with no lights.Enjoy your trip. Highly recomended. I cant wait to go backFrom Sydney Australia stayed Aug 2003

Having never been treated rudely in this lovely country, was shocked at the absolute nastiness of the staff here. They view guests as an inconvenience. The view is great, but take the $2 elevator to see that. They purposely crammed four of us into the room with the hot water heater, and this was during the legendary Europe Heat Wave of August, 2003. Other rooms were completely empty and a lot cooler. They also bunked me with a guy, not a problem really for me, but they could at least ask if it's an issue. He didn't know I was there and came into the room while I was changing. Don't stay here unless you enjoy a most unpleasant welcome. I notice others below have said the same, so I'm not surprised. The Yo-Ho is far superior!

This was among my favourite hostels. There were a ton of problems with it- small rooms and the access to the hostel among them. But frankly, they charge 13 euros (including breakfast) for a room with a stunning view. I know that some people in the guestbook wrote that the view doesn't excuse the poor service, but in my opinion it sort of does. Don't come here if you want to ask 1000 questions about Salzburg, the staff are more pre-occupied with the cafe-restaurant below the hostel. Having said that, they were always polite to me. It's a hostel that's somewhat distinct and I would definitely stay here again if I came to Salzburg.

whilst the view is amazing you could just pay the 1-50 to go up the hill lift to see the same thing. then at least you wouldn't have to endure the poky rooms, non existent bed linen, or unfriendlz staff. There is a lift you must take to reach the hill top that the hostel is on- beware it closes at nine- something the staff didn't bother to tell us about. nor did they tell us how to get up the hill once the lift is closed- a mile of steps (no lie!) situated 500m away and very hard to find. dreadful overall.if you are anyway unfit do not come here and if you are a girl travelling alone. the steps back up through a forest are not at all nice!!!!

This place was pretty fricking good. I had a bed in a four bed room, and the view was AWESOME! You could see most of the city from the hostel. The fortress is just up the way on the same hill. I paid around $12 and had a light European breakfast included... I loved this place, and would go back in a heartbeat. The negative side was that the showers were free, if you used cold water- and it was the coldest water ever. I do not recommend trying to be cheap, and not pay the $0.80 or whatever it was for 4 minutes of hot water... BRRR!

This place is above a little cafe up on the hill (Monchsberg) overlooking Salzburg. Stayed 2 nights in June 2002, and paid 12.50 EUR per person per night. Shower tokens are extra, but the shower seemed to work without them. Included breakfast consisted of coffee/tea with some rolls and butter and jam.It was a little hard to find. You can take the 'Monchsberg lift' (9-21h) up for 1.50 Eur or climb 331 steps. Don't look for the name of the place on any sign, but once on the hill there were some signs for the cafe and a bed symbol. We reserved a double room the day before, and they tried to put us in a 6 bed room. We asked about it and they switched us to the double. The bunk was pretty shaky looking and the mattress pretty thin. The room did have a sink though. The room cabinets didn't have keys to lock (stolen before) and the room didn't lock (didn't ask about it), but he said they could put valuables in the safe. The place was pretty clean, with decent bathrooms/showers.The view of the city is amazing both from the window and the Cafe out front. The Sound of Music tour we went on actually pointed the hostel out and mentioned that it was a good place to get dinner for next to nothing. We didn't have the chance to eat there however. Also didn't really meet anyone since we went out most of the time. The staff was pretty friendly and helpful, and spoke english well. Overall a good experience, especially for the cheap price.
