we stayed here for a few nights in a 10 bed dorm and it was fine. we had some selfish drunk girls the first night but after that it was a lovely place to stay. it's next to a church so when the bell goes off its very loud but personally i thought it was sweet and behind there is a gorgeous cemetary. The reception staff are absolutely lovely and can't help you enough. the breakfast is average but ok. there is a lift here and very decent sized lockers and its located very very central.

Good location, the rooms are clean (if a bit institutional-like). The staff is quite welcoming and breakfast was great. I had to change from the hostel up on the side of the cliff (which had bedbugs!), with a great view but miserable conditions. This was a nice alternative.

Institut St Sebastian is in a beautiful old building with big open central halls and the dorms tucked away in corners. It's close to the train station (15 min walk) and to the old city (5 min).

Dorms, bathroom and kitchen were all super clean (at least at the beginning of the day for the kitchen). The lockers in the rooms were huge and in the kitchen you could even get your own lockable fridge and cupboard space (great for anyone who's ever had stuff taken from a hostel fridge!). It's not a hugely sociable place as many of the residents are students living there permanently, but that gives you some people with a different perspective to chat to in the kitchen. It also makes it much more quiet and peaceful than your usual hostel.

Having said that, the church bells were louder than I had expected but after a couple of days I actually stopped noticing them.

the facilites are clean, and okay breaky and stuff, I agree yeh. But it is full of big boring tour groups, the halls are silent, and there are religious crosses everywhere. And oh the chimes from the church next door. I was out of there and at YOHO after the first night.

Very close to the old town, supermarket, vego restaurant and buses. Not a heap of atmosphere as used to be a convent and is now a residential hall for female students but is clean, cheap and has an ok kitchen. No curfew but limited check in times. definitely email ahead to confirm.

This hostel was great! It was so clean and friendly. The staff werevery helpful in arranging tours and giving directions. If you want to take the Sound of Music Tour or the Salt Mine Tour the staff will arrange it all for you and you will be picked up at the front door. I stayed in a room with three beds and private bathroom, although it was a little bit more expensive it was well worth it! The breakfast was typical of a hostel breakfast, a bun with jam and cheese spread, juice, coffee or tea, but the kitchen staff were very kind. The architecture of the hostel main rooms is reminiscent of old monastaries..very beautiful. The location is very good, a walking distance from the river and old salzburg, we walked everywhere. I would definetly recomend this hostel, which is more like a hotel, to anyone young old, families or single!

This is a fantastic hostel. It is huge and extremely clean, private new bathrooms, and standard breakfast. Its very close to Marktplatz and about 5 minutes walk to the Old Town. There is no lock out or curfew and you have your own key to come and go as you please. The office shuts at 12 midday until 4pm, and I rang ahead from the train station at about 11.45 - the woman in the office stayed open for about 10 minutes so I didnt have to lug my backpack around all day which was very nice.

You can also book tours from the office, there is a public phone, laundry, vending machines and a kitchen and lounge area on each floor.

The only downside for me was staying here in the middle of winter and I was the only person at breakfast each morning! A little lonely and empty particularly in such a huge building. I did have a whole dorm to myself. There is nothing dodgy about this place, but if you are looking for a party I would look elsewhere.

I can't give this place a 5 for this reason: they wouldn't let my girlfriend and I sleep together... that's fine. My room was incredible. A giant room with only two beds (and I was the only one in it) and the best furniture and luggage compartments in my time in Europe. However, the room they gave my girlfriend had 4 bunk beds in a space that was 1/2 the size of my room. Can you say band trip? The place was filled with immature band students going to Austria to enjoy music at it's finest. C'est la vie.

We stayed four nights here and should have stayed longer. It was bar-none the best hostel experience of our trip. You get to stay in a beautiful church with a gorgeous clocktower. The street leading to the church is narrow cobblestone and laden with shops, cafes, etc. The staff was incredibly helpful and even showed us how to use the washer/dryer. (We were confused...they are a little different in Austria) Incidentally, laundry is free here! I stayed in a dorm room, and it was clean and nice. The view from the window was awesome, but there is also a deck on the top floor too. I enjoyed having the church bells wake me up in the morning. Breakfast is included, consisting of the basic bread, jam, butter and coffee, tea or juice. It's in a nice location, and it is a simple stroll to the river or to the Mozartplatz. Don't stay anywhere else...this place can't be beat.

This is a quiet, hostel with spacious corridors, cooking utensils available on loan, small breakfast, pleasant rooms and a beautiful patio on the roof. Don't let the bells put you off, but it might be better to get a room on the lower levels/opposite side from the bells if you are a light sleeper. A great place to stay in salzburg.
