Jugendherberge Wien-Myrthengasse is big and institutional like many other HI hostels. Most rooms have en suite facilities and common areas include a kitchen, TV lounge, Internet access plus a pool table and table football. It is in a residential area not too far from the city centre.
Price Dorm bed €18.50-19.50 (€15.50-16.50 HI/ÖJHV)
Price includes breakfast Prices are in local currency and are inclusive of all taxes.

I stayed for only one night in November/2005 and don't have any complaint. The entrance and front desk could be more clean, what made me afraid of staying there, but when I got to my room it was fantastic. I felt very secure with a eletronic key to the room and the locker (bring your own lock!). Nice bed with clean sheets. The 4-bedded room was big enough for everyone, with a table and some chairs inside. The shower in the room was great, whitout those annoyings showers you have to press every second. The common area was one of the greatest I saw in Europe, with TV, food-machines and tables. Nice breakfast too, with 2 breads, cheese and ham, butter and jam and one hot drink.

Stayed 2 non consecutive nights here in August.Very convenient for late arrival/early departure. Within 15' on foot from Westbahnhof. The 2nd time, missed my train connection in Budapest, phoned the hostel, and guy at reception agreed to hold my reservation for an extra 4 hours, which was swell from him.Drawbacks:in the city centre, lots of places to eat out around, so noisy till late in the night (both in the corridors and outside in the street).Even if you leave before the bread-rolls have arrived, you still have to pay the package "bed and breakfast". Good breakfast though.Submitted this review by cllicking on "Wien Brigittenau" by mistake. It should have been Myrthengasse!

The staff really sucks, they seem to be the "coolest guys on the planet" but they're actually just the worst scrap in the universe.I was robbed in the place, nothing but too much money, the passport and a digi-cam, and they answer to me: look, we have cameras.. but we cant wacht the videos for you... the police station is right the corner, go ahead and tell 'em. WHAT? aren't they SECURITY cams? what the hell.... mein Gott! I thought they were used for such cases...but it seems I was wrong (at least, not in this hostel)Besides of this, they could NOT tell me who else had the electronic key of MY room. WHAT? are u kidding me? such a serious place, uh? such a couple of asshol3s havent see in my whole life, for sure my friend.Dont even think about to be there for a sleep, if you want to keep your ride as a nice trip.

The hostel is located in a very convenient area to explore Vienna. With a short bus ride, you will arrive the museum quarter, which is one of the best in Europe. The area is also full of great restaurants that are rather inexpensive compared to the city center (more touristy-section). I stayed in a six-bedded room on the top floor. On this floor, the bathroom was privately set, meaning only one shower unit per a door. This meant a longer wait time for a shower, however, the facility was so clean and privacy was so refreshing that I didn't care. It was, afterall, a nice break from a dorm-type shower facility where several shower units are lined up, and you will meet half-naked roommates once you get out. The bedrooms were also clean. From the room that I stayed, the view was wonderfuly serene (tree, birds, etc.). There is a closed shelf-space for each bed where you can store your small belongings (but no valuables - no lock). You can store your valuables in a locker outside the bedroom. For this locker, you have to bring your own lock. Make sure that your lock is not one of those tiny suitcase locks (will not work). The hostel sells locks for 3.6 Euro, which I thought was expensive. The hostel receives a lot of school children as guests. You know how kids are. No matter where they are, when they are with their friends, they want to talk and act laudly. I read in another review that this hostel PREFERS groups (vs. individuals hostellers), so be prepared to see (and hear) a lot of kids in the hallways. When I stayed there, I had to deal with kids in the common area, however, the hostel did a decent job situating me with other individual hostellers on a different floor away from the school kids. Probably they will do the same for you if you are an individual hosteller. To be sure, you might want to ask a room away from school groups when checking-in. Would I stay at this hostel again when I am in Vienna? The answer is Yes. It is hard to find such a sparkling clean hostel. However, I will be a bit cautious if I am traveling there during a popular season for school trips.

For a quick stay in Vienna his place is alright. The facilities are clean, the bathrooms are crisp, the bedrooms have been written on, but all very drab. The main problem I had was with the electronic key card which didn't work well and was locked out for about an hour till a resident came out. There are a large number of student groups that come through, so it gets noisy. The staff weren't very nice when I arrived, and when I wanted to pay for the night they charged me an extra 9 euros to get a membership card which I didn't want. For a desperate late arriver this place will do. Stay June 2004

Too many people. I guess I have to wait for shower for hours if I stay in a dorm room (I stayed in the room with private shower though). Have breakfast as early as you can. Otherwise you can't find the place to eat. Actually many people brought their breakfast back to their rooms. Location is ideal but I won't stay this place any more. The hostel is clean but I think other hostels may be cleaner.

Nice hostel, except the staff, which seems to be a common thread here. Seemed to have a lot of groups, either schools, or tour busses though. The room itself had four beds, ensuite in the room, and electronic keys. Did not notice too much noise, although as said before, the laundry was crap.Quite close to the centre, and cheap eats just around the corner.

This hostel is very clean. I stayed here for 3 nights and the rooms were okay. There was a shower and sink in the room itself, allthough I had to go outside to visit the toilet, which ran out of toiletpaper often. Security was perfect, magnetic keys, but you had to bring your own padlock, or buy one for 4 euro, to lock your closet. The breakfast wasn't good, you had to pay for orange juice and yogurt and it was kind of chaotic. Bus connections are great and the city centre is nearby. There is no great atmosfere in this hostel, but there was no curfew!

after getting to this place (which was a challenge in itself!) i lined up in the foyer with a throng of perhaps 20 people while the staff member behind the desk fiddled around and took his sweet time serving anyone (no joke we were there for a good 10 minutes as I had no where else to go!) When he did serve us he was rude, arrogant and unhelpful and just plain obnoxious! Without going into too much detail it was a terrible experience and one I hope never to repeat! A fantastic welcome to Wien! As soon as I could the next day I complained (to a fantastically understanding and sympathetic lady - obviously to helpful to put behind the desk) and moved to Don Bosco. Its in a converted bell tower and if you dont mind a bit of a climb its fantastic! At 6euro per night I wasnt complaining! The service was nice (saintly in comparison!).STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE UNTIL THEY GET RID OF LEO! SPARE YOURSELVES THE TROUBLE!Despite my issues though - the hostel was adequate and the breakfast was ok. If only a little stingy and regimented!

The localization is good: you can get there easily by bus and even in the weekends and night there are lot of possibilities to get there. The neighboored is very beatiful and you can take cheap meals in the surroundings or even in the hostel. The atmosphere is very nice and calm...Breakfast is OK, but the extras for jogurts or juice are not so cheap...The staff is not the greatest one: the girl who attend us was very rude and almost lost your hostel cards... We have to lose time to go back and take them!!!!If you want to sleep, you´ll have problems... This is so noisy!!! I could not sleep until 3:30 am and after 7:00!!!
