Inviting, funky, laid-back, comfy, safe, location, clean, breakfast yummy- what more could you want?

Pros: This hotel is so friendly and funky that its the perfect place to meet people and have a ball.
Cons: Steep staircase but part of the charm. Not that many beds so in summer book ahead!

As soon as you arrive, you feel at home: The eclectic decor in the folk bar downstairs, the kind, young staff who help you settle in and the friendly backpackers staying who were some of the nicest travellers Ive met so far. Enjoy the world class music they get in the folk bar. Its a favourite with the locals too which was awesome. The kitchen is hilarious it is so chockablock with utensils and things to use, so go crazy with the cooking! Got a great sleep in cool and comfy bunkbeds with good mattresses, and thankfully there aren't too many beds in each room. At last I woke up to a hot shower which is in its own room so you have space to get changed rather than being cramped in a tiny cublicle. Importantly had the best breakfast Ive seen in a hostel.

My only regret is that I didn't stay longer. Stay a few nights, really explore Antwerp which has a lively vibe and funky night life and get to know the crew at the hostel.

This hostel was OK. The best thing about it is location. It's about a minute walk from both the cathedral and the Grokt Markt. It is about as central as humanly possible. Also, it's above a folk music bar and guests are always encouraged to step in for a drink (the bar serves a good selection of beer). The sleeping quarters though, are nothing special. The beds are extremely creaky and the rooms are rather drafty. Sheets are NOT included and there none on premises (so bring a hostel sheet or a sleeping bag). Also, watch out for that steep, narrow staircase, especially after a few beers.

Wasn't the greatest place in the world, but there are certainly worse. Location alone means you should give it a look.

apart from the very dodgy, very steep staircase this was one of the best hostels we stayed in throughout europe. rooms are big so bunks arent squashed together and each room has shower an wc. the manager is a strange hairy man but very helpful nonetheless. bar downstairs has a distinctly irish feel to it an there are some good trad sessions. location couldnt be better right in the centre of things, metro within 100 yards. b/fast is great! all in all we had a gr8 experiance here and if it enticed us back frm amsterdam then Heksenketel hostel should definately pull all backpackers to this brilliant city!! ('',)
