Having read fantastic reviews about this place, I felt lucky to get a bed there for two nights. Felt not so lucky returning on the second night, knowing that I had to put up with it again. Was put in the 12 bed dorm (might have been 10, I didn't count), where half of the beds didn't have ladders (I'm not an acrobat). Luckily I was with a friend the second night, and he could give me a hoist up into the bed. Perhaps not a huge problem, but the rooms themselves had an unwelcoming, institutional, cattle shed quality.Breakfast was semi-cardboard (I'm convinced!), but the worst feature was the fountain in the pool table area. It stank....really put me off sitting there. It really, really stank.
The staff were nice, and it was cheap, so if you can't find anything else , its ok for a short stay.
Pros:
clean, great atmosphere at the bar
Cons:
very bad, too early breakfast, stuff very impolite(at bfast)

I stayed here in july 2006 for one night. Since the cheapest beds were ocupated, two of us stayed in 4beds room and it was cool. If you are tired and if you get a bed with the view on the bar (as I did) and if you are noise sensitive (as I am) you'll have problems. linen is 4 euros so it's good if you have sleeping bag, and showers on the floor are clean (had some difficulties with a tap). No curfew, great atmosphere, but very poor breakfast which starts very early and finishes (I think) at 9am. We came on time and we were in the middle of eating when all the people (including us) who didn't finish thier bfast til 9 am were, literally, pushed out from a dinning room and stuff didn't let us finish. I felt terrible, they were very impolite... Hostel is near the center an the hostel is ok, but my experience was disrupted with bfast affair :)

I was there for 1 night over the weekend. The double room was clean, warm, simple and nice. Brussels isn't that big, so although it's not central central.. it's 2 mins walk from the Metro and 5mins to rest of town there after.Bfast wasn't that great, but c'mon.. its free bfast.in short.. definately worth going there.

The hostel was overall a great deal. We met a ton of interesting people at this hostel, probably moreso than at any other hostel we stayed at. The bar/lounge area is a lot of fun with Euro Beers at night, as well as a pool table.Depending on where in the hostel you stay, the bathrooms could be a little walk, but it wasn't that bad. There are two parts to the hostel, the main location, and another satellite place where they put people, and that is across the street. The locker room was a little grungy, and some of the lockers were banged up enough that you could just reach inside because the door was bent etc. But it wasn't that big of a deal.

The entrance lobby is far more luxurious than the rest of this hostel, but still, at these prices you can't really complain. Th location isn't great, but there's an underground station nearby. The atmosphere was relaxed and I met some extremely nice people here. In summer, the beer garden around which most of the buildings are centered is a nice place to hang out, and the beer is seriously cheap. Laundry facilities are a bit rudimentary and the beds have seen better days. But all in all, you could definitely do worse.

hostel was okay. writing more to beef about the ugly city of brussels. never have i been to a more boring, chaotic city. people in train stations didn't get their facts straight. ended up being no train to amsterdam when i was told there would be, so i had to spend an extra day in the hell called brussels. nothing to see in the city, saw it within the span of 20 minutes. the only impressive sight was the grand place. the mannekin pis is a dinky structure not worth your time, and definitely not worth a trip to brussels. if you are heading to belgium, go to brugge.

This place impresses you with automatic doors and a hotel-like lobby with jazz music playing at the bar/cafe. But don't expect too much for the rooms, because you'll surely be disappointed. The rooms have squeaky beds and poor lighting. There are like 8 people to one room, but there's like 2 TOILETS for the entire hostel. And the people out drinking are so loud that you will learn to love your earplugs that may bring you semi-silence. Staff are okay, but either the music is too loud or they are just too lazy to realize you've been standing there for 30 min. The kitchen is really pretty though, almost like a model home kitchen.

I have just recently been backpacking for the first time in Belgium and France (on my own!!!), and this was my first ever youth hostel. It was also definitely the best one that I stayed in on the whole of my trip, and I stayed in a few!!! To begin with I was really scared, but after 1 night in this hostel, I felt really settled.I stayed in a 10 bed dorm for 5 nights and a single room for 2 nights. I definitely prefered the dorm because its a great way to meet new people. The only bad thing was it was kinda noisy because the door screeches when you open and shut it which makes you feel a bit guilty if you need the loo at night time! The bar was GREAT though, beers for 1Euro and all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, whatever you wanted to ask them, they did whatever they could to help. There is a good kitchen for cooking your own food, which is good if you're on your own, and another great place to meet new people. And to make it even better, it's the cheapest place to stay in Brussels. I definitely recommend this hostel for anyone that is looking to stay somewhere cheap with a great, friendly atmosphere. And I would stay here again without hesitation!

Location wasn't too bad, the staff were good, the beer was cheap... we probably could have paid a little more and gotten a better room, but the cheapest rooms leave something to be desired, as do the tiny bathrooms under the stairs. The breakfast was your standard hostel fare, and there was decently-priced Internet and lockers. We were only there for one night and I wouldn't want to stay there for too long, but for the price it wasn't bad at all.
