Oooohhhh. This one was pretty bad. Ive stayed in some questionable hostels, but this one definitely takes the cake when it comes to cleanliness-or lack thereof. The bathrooms were filthy and the toilets looked as if they had never been cleaned. The showers, oh my goodness. I actually found green stuff growing on the floor of the one I was in. The carpet in the room that I stayed in was disgusting and appeared to have never been vacuumed. Lots of liquid spilled all over it. The beds were okay, but I was afraid to look at the sheets after viewing everything else. It was also a fairly long walk to the center, although the tram stopped pretty close to it. Make sure that the room you are put in is not right over the bar. It can get noisy.

I spent a few days in Brugges, and stayed at the Beahaus. It's a nice walk to the main square, there's a bar, and a kitchen that serves up some tasty foods, bike rentals, internet, you can't go wrong here. Maybe the bathrooms were a bit on the dirty side, but I expect that from a hostel and not a hotel. I'll definately stay there again whenever I get back to medieval Brugges. Great bar, average hostel. Good price as well. I have fond memories of this hostel, but most are of the people i've met there and the bar, not the hostel so if cleanliness is your thing you might want to look elsewhere, but go and party at the bar in the evening!

After arrival at the Bauhaus hotel we were almost overcharged for 3 bed room, while the reservation of a 2 bed room had already been confirmed. When we complained we were given a 2 bed room which would not be ready until 3 o' clock. When returning at 3, we had to wait for a least an hour because the roomchange they had made before was not registrated. When finally we could retreat to the room it was clean, quite big had a shower and 3 (!) beds. Later we found out the shower had to be turned on every 15 seconds and the walls were as thin as cartboard. The breakfast was horrible, the bread had almost been finished and we were given the butter and confiture others had been using before.I'm sorry to say so, but except for the fact the temperature was quite high indeed, the staff is quite lazy and not very helpful at all.

The Bauhaus is the cheapest hostel in town, I think. Which is appropriate because it's also the filthiest and least secure. The bathrooms are disgusting. Expect to see dirty water all over the bathroom floors, with half of the toilets and showers broken; expect hair clogs in drains, and stains in all of the toilets. The working toilets and showers don't work particularly well; they all seem to have a stutter-start effect. There's zero privacy in the showers, as most of the curtains are half torn and never appear to be replaced. As far as security goes, it's pretty much nonexistent. We were put up in the "tricky" room. Someone had lost the room key, and they never replaced it, so we were told to simply keep it unlocked. We were lucky and had no serious problems, but while we were there at least one guy had his wallet stolen. The bar is reasonably cheap, with a friendly atmosphere. The staff is friendly, but clearly overworked. You'll do yourself a favor by staying elsewhere. But if you do get stuck at the Bauhaus, your best bet is to wander around the hostel a little. If you search, you can probably find more reasonably maintained toilets and showers on floors and in wings other than your own.

We stayed in May this year, in a double room in the hotel next door. It was pretty good value (but then, we live in the UK), a clean shower in our room, but shared toilet, which was clean for about 80% of the time. The bar is nice, and the food pretty good value, as Brugge can be expensive to eat out in. Breakfast was alright, but you would be better to buy your own rolls from the supermarket down the road. Sometimes there were not enough seats at breakfast. They mucked our reservation up twice, I booked about 1 mth prior, then confirmed (luckily) 2 weeks prior - they only had us booked for 3 out of the 4 nights. When we turned up, they only had us booked for 1 night, luckily there were rooms available, but we had to move during our stay (a hassle). During that time, our bags were stored in the bar area (where anyone could get into them), we were assured this was safe as there were video-cameras......sorry, please don't patronise me, if they were safe why would you need video cameras to watch them? Luckily we had pack bags and heavy duty padlocks, we locked our packs in the bags, then locked them together (which made them too heavy to carry). We met a Canadian couple whose reservation had also been mucked up as well - may pay to check a couple of times before arrival, during the high season it would be hard to find alternative (cheap) accommodation. The room was alright, clean but not very well lit. Compared to some of the hostels we have stayed in, this one is good value. Plus, you're not there to stay in your room all day. It is also worth going for a walk into the town at night (ie after about 6pm), less tourists (a lot of tourists are daytrippers), and very beautiful. We would also highly recommend the Flanders Fields tour (around the WWI Battlefields). You do not have to be a military buff, the tour is very interesting, informative and moving. Go to www.quasimodo.be.

the bar/restuarant is definitely the best part, it makes an especially great place to people watch. unfortunately, there's no real common area other than this, and so i found it a bit lonely as a single traveller. the rooms were adequate, though security was nonexistent and the bathroom was also the bar bathroom, whcih made things a bit unpleasant. dusgusting bathroom, disgusting and virtually nonfunctioning showers. nice staff.

The hostel is situated in an excellent location close to the centre of brugge, I stayed in a private room with a private shower, the only problem I had was we had to share a toilet which was right at the other end of the hall. All in all the place has alot of character and if your looking for a private room it is great value.

We had a double room, it was clean but it didn't have private WC, this was shared and it was very-very small. We didn't have any bad experience (except the noise of the couple next door!) but it is sure that someone can go inside the building as the reception (which is the bar) is next door. The bar is nice, they have good food and you can meet people there, the staff is young and very friendly. I surely recommend this place, actually I have recommended to some friends that are probably going to Bruge.
