Don't let the fact that this hostel isn't in Praha 1 stop you from booking a room. The tram is easy to figure out and safe to ride even at 3 in the morning. This is by far the best hostel I've ever stay in. The staff is amazing (how they remember everyones name is beyond me), you could eat off the bathroom's floor and the free breakfast is delicious. It's doesn't get better than this! We had to leave before breaksfast and the staff packed us one to take with us the night before. My mom won't even do that! Treat yourself, book the Boathouse.

Everyone else here pretty much summed it up, far from town but you will not care after one day there. Once you show up there, you think everyone else is part of a big group because they all hang out together... couple hours later and your in that big group. Something about that place that just gets everyone all friendly. Then the night hits and the whole pack of ya go out on the town. Sweet city, sweet hostel. Make sure to experience coming back to the Boathouse when the clubs close, nothing like a hungover stroll from the street-car stop to the boathouse as the sun's coming up! I just wish i stayed longer cuz I totally miss everyone I met there.

I got to the hostel, which is located directly on the river, and immediately ran into people sitting, talking out on the grass and jumping from a bridge into the river... the view from the hostel is amazing... then you meet the wonderful owners and the cutest cat you will ever come across... then you get to a comfortable room (I was in a quad), stay for the cheapest, most delicious dinner in hostel history, and pay only 10 dollars per night, sheets included, plus an extra 5 dollars for them to do all of your laundry (one load size) delivered to your door. Everyone there is friendly and you meet so many people. I wish I could have stayed there 3 months, and I talk about the Boathouse all the time!!!!!

facts: clean rooms, cheap prices, food, beverage and toiletries available at hostel, bus tickets given with check-in, showers on first floor (clean, but only a few), huge dining area with TV, bus stop: Cerny Kun, and do not walk alone from the bus stop to the hostel!

I stayed 3 nights at the Boathouse right before Easter. I stayed in the 10-bed girl's dorm, but it was less than half full the whole time. I agree that the ladies are very nice and obviously have a loyal following, judging by the fan mail adorning the walls. However, I do have to report that my arms, neck, and face were covered in bed-bug bites the day I left. I think they came from a pillow I switched from another bed. Walls are pretty thin, so pack your earplugs!

Great place to stay as mentioned by all of the fantastic reviews below. Like mentioned, the ladies are phenomenal. You will quickly realize that by the many postcards on the walls from travelers that had been there and wanted to once again give these great ladies one last thank you. The ladies that run the place do care and want to hear from you when you go.

If you stay a week at the boathouse, you will receive a very cool shirt that says you made it a week at the Boathouse. Trust me, it will be hard not to stay that week because it feels like home especially if you have been traveling a lot.

Other than the great service, the setup of the Boathouse is awesome. It is just how it sounds...a boathouse. Don't mind the journey to get there out of town. It isn't long and you will learn to love it because of the reward that awaits.

This hostel was by far my favorite in europe. I traveled through out europe for 6 weeks before finding this wonderful place and i cant express how muchit ruled! First off the service is phenominal. The women who run the place are amazing ladies who treat all visitors with respect and actually even get to know your name! Now the food... ahh it is almost as good as the service. The ladies prepare lunch and dinner for a very small fee and you eat with your felllow travelers which gives you and even better chance to get to know people. The rooms are clean and spacious.. and the bathrooms are wonderful with hot water and good pressure. The only thing a little tricky about this place is that its 15 mintues or so outside of the city. Definitely worth the commute though. I give it 5 stars because it really is an amazing place to stay. Anytime i find myself back in Prague i will definitely stay here

I have to say that this review may be written with a tinge of bias ... I stayed at this place for two weeks (it was supposed to be a brief stop on the European Excursions) and loved it. As is de riguer, I´ll let you know the basics ...

Rooms cost 320K as of July 2002 ... there are a couple of 8 bed dorms (bunks) and a host of smaller (more comfortable and homely) rooms. There is internet access on two computers, tram tickets, postcards, stamps, food and drink for sale. Breakfast set you back 70K, and dinner 100K. There is a TV room/common room, although my vote was to always have the black box truned off. The place is slightly out of town by a beautiful spot on the river. It´s location, especially in the summer, is a definite plus. Also, there are 24 hour trams that go there, so I ALWAYS got home late at night. Even saw the sun rise on a few occasions!

And here comes this biased bit. These ladies love you to death. How they can remember everyones name is beyond me. Most nights in Prague, I forget my own. They were as flexible and friendly as any that I have met arounf Europe. The hostel generally has everything you can want as a launchpad to good Prague adventures.

The only negative things I can say is that it seemed to not have a big mix of nationalities (mainly US), but you other people can change that by going there. The showers are a communal effort which can put off some people .... but then again, you did say you wanted to find yourself on this trip!

Go .... and have a ball!

The women at the hostel are more than welcoming. In my case, it was a winter excersion, and finding the hostel proved to be a little tricky, since it is not as close as most places, but we found it non the less, and the travel was WELL worth it. You will find that the ladies who run this hostel are all distant aunts you never knew were there. This place is kept clean and tidy. The food is delicious, and the staff is very helpful (they do laundry here people!!!)

Have a blast in Prague and take the suggestions of the ladies. They will not stear you wrong.

if you are planning on doing the hit and run tour of Europe avoid this fantastic hostel. You don't deserve their great care. For you other travelers, the boathouse hostel may be little out of the way, but it's well worth it. It is very confortable and makes a great home away from home. the very cheap lunches and dinners served there are a budgeter's dream. Respect the ladies who run the place because they will treat you as if you were their own children.

There are many Hostels in Prague. Most are more central. But in non of them will you get a warmer wellcome than in the Boathouse.

It is beautiful locaded at the Moldau and easy to reach by the tram (even late at night). But the best of all are the czech ladies which run the Hostel and there brackfast. (Brackfast is uncommen in Czech and usualy not offerd). If they say you can feel like home in the boathouse it is ment that way and you will feel it.

If I come to Prague (several times a year) I try to stay there. The only problem is to get a reservation. But once you are there you don´t want to leave anymore. It is a great Hostel in a great city.
