There were three of us, virgin travellers, and they messed up our booking. I was seperated from the other two and put in a room on my own with three other blokes. bit scary, they were hot though! so why the five stars you say? well, this place takes some getting used to, but we travelled all around europe for a month and this was by far the most interesting hostel!

as a traveler i have seen and experienced hostels across the world... and after staying some extended time in the clown and bard i have come to see the true roots of this place. different then any other hostel by far this place has set the ground work for some of the best stories of my life, and i'm counting on good times still to come. without doubt good traveling experiences never rely completely on the hostel at all but on the traveler himself. but problems with accomudation can be annoying and as far as my word goes you will have nothing but good vibes at this laid back hostel. no problems no bulls#@t !! the place stays open 24 a day and has a staff thats cool and frendly. any problems you might have with your travels and just go talk to the manager.. he's allways willing to help. basicaly i can't say anything bad about this place because i like it so much, so if you want my opionion about this place, then it goes like this..... its a bad ass place.... come check it out!!!!!!!

visited in may 2002 and armed with clean. starched sheets we attempted to FIND the room. after finding it, it was probably the only hostel in europe during our 15 week sojourn that we did not want to stay at. when I am suspicious, my inquisitive nature always heads to view what lies under the mattress ! ! sure enough - my suspicions were confirmed. the smoke-filled bar which seems to be always full of beer-hustlers was oppressive. i have my doubts that on the international circuit, this hostel would mount for much. the guidebook reviews are all over-rated. in fairness though the hostel did make arrangements to accommodate us in a triple room without prior booking.

staff is a toss-up...some are cool, some are not.bar downstairs is good, it just seems that most people never venture any further than it or the blind eye bar around the corner. bathrooms were decent. 99 kc breakfast sucks. go somewhere else or make some cereal for yourself. the 99 kc would be better spent on 4 beers. it was an okay hostel, if smoking all day and drinking all night is all you hope prague to be.

I am always reluctant to give a hostel a poor review as you can't expect a grade A experience for the price you're paying. This place, however, was one of the poorest hostels I stayed in during my 9-week European tour. The price, as with everything in Prague, is cheap to we Brits/Americans/Canadians/Kiwis/Aussies but is overpriced by Czech standards as they know we'll find it cheap. DON'T TAKE THE 99 CROWN BREAKFAST: the food is old, stale, full of unwanted salt and not very exciting: the unlimited orange and apple juice was nice though (despite the occasional dead fly floating around in the OJ!). The location is a bit dodgy (Americans read "shady"!!), I didn't feel particularly comfortable walking around and it's a task getting into the centre of town (10-minute uphill walk to the metro but then a straight ride in). My dorm was just off a shared social area with kitchen facilities and a table. The beds were comfortable and the sheets clean. My biggest gripe would be with the showers: no hot water at unpredictable times of the day and freezing cold water at other unpredictable times of the day. Hence, I couldn't shower as often as I would have liked in the 30C heat- not good for the odour! The bar was quite good, with cheap beer (30p, 45c a PINT!) and a relatively social atmosphere. Overall, this hostel didn't enhance my already-low opinion of Prague. Avoid this hostel if you can, but it's not unbearable if you can't find elsewhere.

Stayed at the C&B over a month ago and loved it!I would like to make the following confessions:-I ate 1 sandwich from the lobby without paying.-I was the one who flooded the downstairs bathroom by taking a 1 hour shower.-The slice of pizza found under a pillow was not left by "the pizza fairy", it was left by the "absynth fairy"Apologies:-To the man who followed me outside to have a cigarette with me in the garden and got the "I'll be right back" line, I am kind of sorry, but not really.-To the tall bloke from San Francisco who I repeatedly threatened to beat because he was gay and wasn't attracted to women, all I can say is, it was the green demon liquor that made me do it- but I really did hate you.-To the staff at C&B who repeatedly had to tell me to shut up as I sat in the lobby smoking and yelling at all hours of the night. We had fun though! I don't remember his name, but the guy at the desk with the long blonde hair and the beard is a real doll! Helped me out and was really nice to me when I needed it!Love the C&B!

Hello to everybody who reads this. We stayed in Clown and Bard last week and had a great time! Great music in the bar downstairs. To the girl who's behind the bar; i really had a great time watching the football (chech-holland) in the park. Thanks for the tip! You must have laughed your ass off sending us up to the park between 300 chech people as two dutch people... We did to. Thanks for the great time and if we visit Praha again, I;m sure we'll stay at Clown and Bard. Love Annemiek from Holland.

Just left this absolute crap hell hole of a hostel, after spending the night sleeping on the floor as they 'forgot' to fix the bed which has fallen asunder!!.. the place is dirty- staff are completely ignorant - made you think you should be grateful that you have a bed!. Was awake all night by the other 'guests' who were too busy smoking dope and getting drunk to have any consideration of anyone else, after paying 400kc to sleep on the floor, shower in a dirty bathroom, walk up 5 flights of stairs, and be kept awake till 6.30am.. you have been warned!!!!stay away!!!

Sorry for the rude summary but its really the worst hostel I have ever stayed in.In my opinion, the only reason you might find it cool, relaxed, chilled etc. is if you are either completely pissed or been smoking your head off for a few days. Then remember, you don't give a shit about what the place is like and you only remember whether you had fun in the bar or not.So, if you like any hint of comfort, cleanliness, or meetin friendly people, stay the hell away from here!!! its a complete hole.Tiny rooms, not unlike prisons, surly staff, lots of weirdos hanging about, and really only those types of backpackers that you dont wanna talk to anyhow.Trust me, pick somewhere else .... this is the WORST PLACE IN PRAGUE to stay.

The C&B is fairly clean and social. The dorm is huge, like 30 people. Avoid it if you are staying more than one night. It is located on top of a steep hill. Make sure your calves are up to it.
