this is probably one of the homiest, best hostels that i have stayed at (and after 3 solo trips to europe, i've stayed in a few!) - the outside terrace is awesome, and there is a pretty good bar/restaurant next door. it is also located very close to the Spicak bus stop, which means you dont have to carry your bags too far. overall, krumlov is a great little town that should not be missed. i know that i will return many times and i know i will stay at hostel 99.

Only a smallish place but with a great atmosphere - partly because of the size. The kitchen is one of the main rooms, meaning you get to know most of the others, and although there's a bar/restaurant type place, you have to buy the meals if you want them from there. The rooms are pretty basic (bed and locker) and the showers/bathroom are communal, but again the size means that there aren't too many people trying to get into the shower - which always run alternately hot and cold - at once. It's not far from the centre at all, though the walk is a little cold from the bus stop when it's winter (as it was for us).

Hey guys. This is the second time i have stayed here at 99. i have never written a review in bugeurope but i thought this occasion warranted some text. im an aussie cruising through the east. first time i stayed here was okay. although the hostel is good everybody ends up going to the travellers hostel bar anyway. i was woken by greg (the american guy that works here) at 4 in the morning. he was standing there with the girl that runs the restaurant and 6 czech police. the girl stood there spraying water all over me to wake me up. a really proffesional act. they woke me to accuse us of smashing a window downstairs. im a strait down the line lad, i knew what had happened but i wasnt going to rat the guy in that broke it. he was another young aussie that was travelling with a few other blokes. they didnt even wake him. thats not an issue. anyway me and my other mate got booted first thing the next morning. what i couldnt understand is that greg was crying when he came to wake us up. i said mate, chill out, its only a window we can fix it. dont stress. he couldnt comprehend what had happened. i live and work in baghdad and to me or any other person with a brain they would say okay, shit happens, we'll fix it tommorow. but to cry, i mean settle down, nobody is dead. we moved into travellers hostel and for pretty much the same price we had our own room, not a 15 person dorm. there was hot water and you didnd have to lean against the tap to keep the water going. 99 in general is a decent hostel. travellers is better. you end up going to the bar there every night and its right in the center of town. ill leave it up to you guys, but honestly i can only pitty greg and his lack of exposure to to real issues. what is a piece of glass, and get your facts right. unfortunatly im not going to put my email address. greg, if your there i urge you to email me with an appology. if my email falls into the wrong hands all i can say is im a vindictive prick. dont let this put you off staying there, i just wanted to put my side accross, and in general travellers is much better. if you want to party travellers is the place. go hard guys.

Where do you start with this hostel. Well its cheap, good atmosphere, great staff, great location in a lovely town, clean and well just a brilliant hostel. The staff will go out of their way to help you in this hostel they are brilliant people always wanting to help you with anything they can, although the people that work in the bar next door aren't quite as nice, well they aren't nice at all in all fairness, don;t think they are a fan of tourist! The bar however did serve some nice food at good prices, worth eating here as everything else in town is mainly pizza and pasta! The views from the rooms were amazing. If your looking to save a bit of money ask for the sofa beds which I ended up on on the first night there and had a brilliant night sleep! The only problem i experianced with the hostel were the showers which are the type that you have to hold the button in on but they did the job and I would still give the hostel 5 stars! If you go to Cesky K make sure you stay here!

in all the hostels i stayed in throughout europe, this one definitely had the best vibe. as you enter the hostel, you have to pass the eating area, and there were always people eating and drinking who will greet you. when you check in, you are greeted by the most easy going staff members. the rooms, bathrooms, and showers were all very clean. no bunkbeds to be found here. every bed has a freshly laundered pillow case, bedspread, and duvet cover. i woke up every morning listening to the sound of the river outside my window! the restaurant serves the most delicious (and cheap) food, and the menu is quite extensive. there is a kitchen, which is well kept, and provides coffee and tea (you can throw some spare change into a tin if you want to). also in the kitchen is a stereo so you can play your own music, or put in a cd from the hostel's collection. there is also a tv for your entertainment. the only bad thing about this hostel is that no one locks the dorm rooms so anyone can come into your room. however, they do provide lockers, so it is best to take advantage of them and store your things in them.

99 may have undergone some changes since the last review. its worth mentioning the great restaraunt and the doubles/triples theyre in the process of adding over the road. theyll be really lush when finished, though i'm not sure if the beds are any different. they wernt too bad i suppose. the fry-ups (breakfast 99) at the restaraunt were the heartiest, most delicious (and possibly one of the fattiest) breakfats in all of europe - exactly what you want after a big night on the pilsner. the fruit was a great touch - looking after all the main food groups.the hostel is staffed and populated by a bunch of wiley, cheeky hostel/travel veterans who probably arent as cool as they think they are, but theyre still totally fun, helpful and undoubtedly add to the great atmosphere of the place. the busabout/turnover thing is a good point - we saw more aussies here than in the rest of europe! the location is great, on the fringe of the main chunk of krumlov, but still within walking distance of everything. didnt have the intense drinking/party vibe that i saw at the traveller's hostel down the road, which suited us fine. dont get me wrong, people were getting shlargered, just keeping things under control, with the help of the staff, sort of. security wasnt an issue for us, but we were in doubles. umm, what else? free keg on wednesday, great kitchen, cheap innernets, laundry, cool decor, plenty of travel/transport information, quality showers (pushbuttons arent that much of an issue), great communal vibe, cant stress the restaraunt quality enough. we had the time of our lives in krumlov and would definitely return and stay at 99 again.

I loved the atmosphere of this hostel. Everyone was there to have fun. I'd probably stay away if you don't like people comming and going late at night. A couple of the rooms are accessed through other rooms. Security is a huge problem here. With so many people comming and going at night, you don't really know who is supposed to be there and who isn't. One of the nights someone's main pack was stolen two beds away from mine as well as someone else's daypack. There are just a few small lockers which aren't really good for much except passport/tickets so make sure you have some way to secure your pack. The only other down side is the fact that it is a busabout hostel. Nothing against the busabout people.. Had a great time with them, but there's always a huge turnover of new people at the hostel all of a sudden. The positives vastly outweigh the negatives. The hostel is full of people from all sorts of backgrounds. They're all there to have fun though. The hostel rooms are in the attic and downstairs of the hostel. There's also a tower you can stay in. The bar/resteraunt serves great food and beer at very low costs. I highly reccomend the Breakfast 99. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, the beds are incredibly uncomfortable.. but only upstairs. The beds downstairs were amazingly soft. The bartender/resteraunt owner worked incredible hours to ensure that we were all well fed/liquered. There's a games room upstairs of the bar. The main terrace overlooks the whole town. WHEN I go back to Cesky Krumlov, I'll definately stay there again.

This is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. The girl who checked us in was lovely - especially since my friend's bag had been stolen on the way there. Our room was a 3-bed dorm and really cosy - right down to the pictures on the wall. Apparently they get a keg on Wednesdays, but we missed out on this. Heaps of advice on things to do in the area - we wanted to have way more time!

one of the great ones. staff here is uber-cool. they've got all kinds of info about krumlov and are more than willing to share little tid-bits of information. friendly guys who are definately willing to show you a pub or two. great kitchen with everything your little heart desires- including a free keg on wednesdays. beds were pretty comfortable, and the pillows! must be the biggest pillows i've ever seen. i will go to krumlov again, and i will stay at 99.

I stayed here in Sept 2003. The hostel was full and was a hive of activity. The hostel itself is unusual in that it has lots of wooden beams and low ceilings... One room tends to lead to another.... There was a shortage of bathrooms and hot water at times .... Staff in the hostel were friendly though not always in the bar... Free keg of beer on Wednesday evenings and a special 99KC menu each evening... food was great here....They don't however accept Hostel of Europe card as advertised....
