I stayed at Hostel Merlin for a week in October 2005. I stayed in the sigle room, which is more like a bed with walls around it, but I wasn't looking for anything fancy for the price I was paying. The whole hostel was really cosy and had a homely feel. The free internet was great, there was free coffee/tea avaliable and the bathrooms were nice enough. Only downsides to this hostel was the fact that the staff weren't often around, you were literally left there alone, which was ok except for when people would turn up wanting to check in, or when you were checking out and had nobody to leave the key with. But it wasn't too much hassel. I plan on coming back to this hostel next time I visit Eastern Europe, which isnt soon enough!

This hostel is brilliant. It is cheap, centrally located and resembles a chalet in the inside. The staff are very pleasant and helpful, and the bathrooms were the cleaniest I have experienced travelling. The bathrooms are like bathrooms you find in a house, eg you get your own bathroom to use. there is a very homely feel to it, and is more like staying at a B&B than your tradtional hostel. If you are big in to partying, it probably isnt your hostel to do this. Defn recommend this hostel, and would defn stay again.

This was a charming old building in the centre of the picturesque town. Had all basic amenities, including free internet and a kitchen and bathroom on each of the levels. Stayed during november and the hostel was very empty, meaning i got an entire floor to myself, which was great for a relaxing break.Unfortunately the staff couldnt really speak english so were little help but its hard to say much bad about this place because it was so clean and comfortable for the price (cheapest of my entire trip). For fun i would go to hostel 99 where some friends of mine were staying and the atmosphere was much livelier. But then cesky krumlov isnt really a place you should go to with partying in mind.

this was more like a shack than a hostel. we stayed in the roof, with only wee blankets to keep warm, it was very cold. The girl that worked there didnt speak english and so coudnt help at all. It was nice that we had the whole floor to ourselves, but there is not too much to do or see there. it was cosy and romantic. the shower was great and hot. it kept you fit walking up steep stairs to get too, but there isnt much in the way of entertainment. nice enough.

We really enjoyed to stay at the "Hostel Merlin"! The rooms are cheap and small and there´s a little, very nice kitchen, were you can cook your meals or only have a small talk with the other vistors or the receptionist. In the hostel there are three bathrooms equipped with showers. I think if you´re not too pretentious it´s clean enough, but in my opinion the hostel fits most to young people. The receptionist was a really nice guy who gave us some ideas where we can go out in the evening. The hostel also offered free internet. All in all it was a fantastic (and very cheap!!) holiday!

Well sited by river in centre, terrace to sit out on, kitchen and bathroom OKish (downstairs bathrooms better). Bed in 3 bed room OK, though I though the graffitied doors would be better painted over. Generally compact (edging towards cramped). Main problem was it really needed a complete clean, especially the bedroom.

we arrived at seven o`clock in the morning, but no one were there so we had to sleep on the pavement outside for four hours. Our room was the blue(cloudy) one, nice but small. Our fellowbackpackers were nicer than the receptionist(who was only making out with her boyfriend behind the door) the location is nice, and remember to sign the doors and write in the guestbooks before you leave! hurray for the wonderful, magnificent cesky krumlov!! ps. for the weirdest night of your life; see a play at the south bohemian revolving theater in the castle garden. :)

I'm not sure what the other reviewer is talking about, but this place is sweet. The owners are super nice and after traveling for almost 2 years in Eastern Europe, this is still one of the nicest hostels that I've found. I'm going back to it in June and look forward to it very much.

I stayed at Hostel Merlin for two nights over Easter weekend. At the time they were the only hostel I could book online that still had availability. When I arrived in town and called for directions to the hostel, I was told I didn't have a reservation (and never got directions, either). I did make my way there and they gave me a bed but denied I had booked and looked at me blankly when I said I had paid a deposit. In general the hostel facilities were decent. The building is very nice and the location is great, right near the main square. Beds were clean and comfortable, bathrooms were fine but didn't lock. Free internet access would have been more helpful if it didn't crash every 5 minutes. My biggest problem was the staff...the receptionist was worse than useless in my opinion, that is, when she wasn't too busy making out with her boyfriend. And how do you check out at 10AM if the staff doesn't arrive until 11AM?
