BUG Review
Bristol's YHA is a modern hostel with mostly en suite rooms. It features a TV lounge with lots of board games, a games room with a pool table and table football, a small kitchen and a big dining room. Its location by the waterfront is handy to several of Bristol's main attractions.

Once there it is a a superb dockside location. It will not suit car drivers as there is no available nor cheap parking. Rooms were adequate size and well maintained. Minor irritations were lack of a microwave in self catering kitchen & the layout of the showers and toilets. Breakfast was included in the price and was very good. The first floor common area was very pleasant although subdued lighting made book reading very difficult. TV lounge Ok but poor reception on the television. However you are more likely to be spending your time out in Bristol and the hostel could scarely be better placed to achieve that.

I stayed there when the house was fully booked. The four-bed dormitory I stayed in provided beds which I associated with coffins, but this might be a question of style and taste. Unfortunately, the sheets were not fresh and offered me the hairs of my predecessor(s). I was provided with a key to the room, so you can lock also from inside. There were 2 showers and 2 toilets per floor, not gender-separated. The showers were not inviting, especially the air-condition system could be cleaned. There is no provision or facility where to leave one's garment etc when having the shower in the stall. The staff was exceptionally little interested in anything, so professionally neutral might be the best term. However, the (English) breakfast was a surprise and seemed to be very much enjoyed by almost everybody in the breakfast room. The hostel is located in walking distance to the media centre and a whole range of bars and cafés is very close, even though the way to the main station - where the airport bus is departing takes at least 15min by feet and with luggage.

I stayed here for a night in October 2004. The dorm room that I was staying in was a bit worn - needed a lick of paint and the carpet could have done with cleaning. There were only two bathrooms on the floor, with the toilet in the same room, which was fine as the place was half empty, but I could imagine that it might be a problem if they were fully booked. The bathroom was also looking a bit worn, the toilet seat was hanging off, and the sink was dirty.

The staff were all helpful and welcoming. The cooked breakfast was included in the price and was a good start to the day, with cereal, yoghurt and fruit also included in the price. The location was also pretty good, a minute walk away from the city centre, yet still quiet enough to get some sleep.

Stayed here in September for a couple of nights and it was by far the best youth hostel we stayed in for our entire trip. Staff were very helpful, the hostel was really modern (both inside and out) and after chatting with other backpackers, they all agreed it was one of the best going around. Beds comfortable, breakfast was great (hot food, cereal, fruit, toast etc.) Highly recommended!
