There's definitely one good thing to say about this place, and that's the nice friendly atmosphere. We made lots of friends whilst staying here and never once did we feel unsafe.

Unfortunately that's about all the good things you can say about this place. The walls, floors and beds are dirty. Run-down isn't the word. Even the linen feels about as old as the building.

When we first arrived nobody wanted to touch anything and the dirtiness of the place was a source of stress. Bizarrely though, at the end of our two week(!) stay, we had actually gotten used to it. Strange, but true.

Never-the-less, I can't ignore the shock that everyone felt when we first saw what we were paying £20 a night for. It is NOT a clean place that you will feel comfortable in!

We briefly checked out other hostels in Newquay, and it's sad to say that while they weren't as bad, there really wasn't one that was a definite recommend. One good thing about this place was the atmosphere, which is helped by the staff, some of which are some of the nicest, helpful and friendliest people I've ever met.

Still, for all its bad points (and I've not even mentioned it's 20p for 4 minutes in the shower!) it's sad that all the hostels on Headland Road are being knocked down so expensive flats can be built. It may be dilapidated, but I'm still sad to see these types of places go.

I dont profess to be a backpcker but the friends i stayed with are and we are all in agreement that this place is terrible. We stayed for 3 nights in May' 07 and the following are the highlights:

Absolutely stinks, there are foul smells in all parts of the building. Probably damp.

Rooms leak, it rained for an hour or so one evening and our bedroom floor was soaked-ruining half of our clothing!

Charged 44 pounds for our room that had a bunk bed-slats fell out when you got on it-and a sink that looked as old as the building.

Showers were dirty and a charge of 20p for 4 minutes was unbelieveable.

No beds were made up and the beds themselves were very poor.

Kitchen facilities were limited and other backpackers were knicking each others food/drink

Manager was an incompetent. He was blunt and showed no concern AT ALL when we told him about the leak, instead he ignored us and tried to forget to give my friend his 10 pounds deposit back for the room key. As useful as a chocolate teapot!

The lock on the bedroom door could have been forced open by a 3 year old.

No facilities were on offer at all, this is simply a damp, stinky, overpriced, run down hell hole that should be condemed!

To give some idea, my friends backpacked around the world and have stayed in some pretty rundown places, their acknowledgement of this being the worst should give you some idea.

DONT STAY HERE!
