First of all for the person who didn't like staying there, it is a backpackers not a 5 star hotel. In most backpackers, you empty your own rubbish and I don't know of any other backpackers around the world that clean the rooms everyday and I have stayed in quite a few backpackers. For my stay I had a great time, I was there for 2 weeks. The communal areas were thoroughly cleaned everyday and in the kitchen all cloths were replaced everyday. The people running the backpackers were great fun and very friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again and fully recommend to anyone going that way to stay there, it is so handy to everything, beaches, shopping and especially pubs. Keep up the good work Guys.

I stayed here for the summer of 2001. it was wicked. great atmos. dead friendly. craig could be a bit moody but still sound. hope trish the babe land lady is still there.

Not the best for facilities but definately best for surfers, people after a laugh and some top people.

Bleurgh - dirty, smokey and un-friendly, July 28, 2003

My sister and I stayed here for 2 nights in July and wished we hadn't! We each paid £12 for a bed in a 6-bed mixed dorm.

Positives:

Close to town and Fistral beach.

Sink in room.

Other girls in our dorm were friendly.

Negatives:

Smoking was allowed in the common areas (this may be a positive for some but not for me!)

Room was really dirty - hadn't been vacuumed for at least 4 days (according to a girl who'd been there that long) and the bin was overflowing (hadn't been emptied for the same length of time) and the room smelt. It appeared to me that they cleaned the room once a week, on a Saturday (the day we left) by kicking everyone and their things out of the room (before checking out time) whether they were staying longer or not.

Limited shower and toilet facilities - I saw 4 showers and 3 toilets between about 60, though there may have been more toilets. Showers cost 20p. Showers and toilets were dirty, with sand, dirt, water and soggy loo roll all over the floors.

Small kitchen for 60 people - seemed unhygenic with dirty teatowels, dish cloths etc - wouldn't have fancied cooking there. Limited space for storing things.

Lounge and communal areas were fairly small (not a bad thing in itself) but felt crowded with smoke and not-particularly-friendly people.

The owner or manager wasn't very friendly, though did show us around and answered various queries about local facilities.

Really poor security - no locks on bedroom doors, key code on front door, but code was given to us on a business card with the hostel address on it, and besides, the door was left open most of the time so anyone could wander in without question (I didn't recognize many people, I doubt they recognized me).

Overall, not recommended, especially not for more than a couple of nights.

Absolutly the best place in Newquay if you travel from overseas. I've spent three seasons there and I strongly recommend it if you want to meet some excellent people and have the summer of your life!
