was only 17 when i went and it was more of a summer holiday than backpacking or surfing. We weren't expecting brilliant things from a youth hostel but it was clean and welcoming. Rooms were basic (a bed and a sink) but comfortable. It was only a short walk from the train station and close enough to all the beaches, shops, bars and clubs. There was tea and coffee available free of charge along with pasta and a few other basic food items, very useful when you're trying to stick to a very small budget. there's also a lounge with tv and bbq facilities outside. When i went there were only really people aged about 16-18 staying there so it may not be ideal for people much older than that. All in all though, i had a great time!
