BUG review
This is a very well kept hostel above a café in a tiny village between St Ives and Lands End. It has a nice TV lounge with lots of books and most rooms have sea views.

Good review
1 October 2008

Pros: Cleanliness, good food, hot showers!
Cons: Noisy rushing stream right next to the camping field, but hey, it's the countryside!

The Old Chapel Backpackers' Hostel has a little camping field where I stayed for one night during a backpacking trip in September 2008.

As a camper I didn't see much of the hostel's internal facilities, but it looked clean and well run, with a nice cafe (breakfasts available) and the toilets and showers were well kept with plenty of hot water available. There is a small laundry room, although I'm not sure the machines are available to guests.

The Wayside Museum is right next door on one side, and the Tinner's Arms pub is on the other.

Overall, a nice place to stay and a hostel I would be happy to return to on another occasion.

The two of us stayed in this hostel for 3 nights this summer (2003). The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hostel is situated above the cafe which serves delicious homemade food (try the carrot and coriander soup!). The rooms in the hostel were clean and the one we stayed in had wonderful views of the sea in the distance. The toilets and bathrooms were also clean but you could only have a shower before 10 am and after 7 pm (outside of cafe opening times) if I remember correctly. The hostel is located in the small village of Zennor from where you can join the South West coastal path which is well worth doing for the spectacular scenery. The only negative point was when we asked the staff about 'drop offs' to bars and restaurants as advertised on their Zennor Backpackers web site and were told that they were not available. Good job there was a pub in Zennor! Its not a hostel to come to if you want to party but if you want a quiet, relaxing time then this is the place to stay. On the whole, a very good hostel and one which I would have no hesitation in returning to.
