The youth hostel was clean, the staff cheerful and the setting lovely. The village is tiny and picturesque with a nice pub (quite expensive) and a small art gallery (Judy Boyes' work). There are some great walks to do in and around the area; good for inexperienced and amateur walkers. It's also close to Ambleside, Hawkshead and Windermere for shopping and outings.

I believe this was two house conversion into one medium size YHA.Very small village. Pub, free car park and small village shop 2 mins walk. Hostel rooms good. Common room/refectory takes up most of the ground floor. Generally used by walkers/cyclists and a very friendly atmosphere. On the bus route. Excellently sited for Langdale walking. Good track nr hostel takes u straight to Langdale Pikes (4-6miles)Recommended
