This camping barn provides an authentic medieval experience! Very primitive but terrific., June 25, 2007
Reviewer: kjdavis from Bellingham, WA, USA

Pros: This 1,000-year-old barn is dripping with Medieval charm. The hilly setting is beautiful.
Cons: Conditions are primitive, and it's not easy to get to.

Camping barns are NOT hostels, and visitors should not expect the same amenities. However, Great Houndtor Camping barn is a delightful place to stay. The barn is 1,000 years old, has three-feet-thick stone walls and the original fireplace and hearth. The setting is bucolic with farm animals and pasture, enclosed by forests. The surrounding hills are dotted with tors - granite towers that are great for climbing and exploring. Anne, the elderly owner of the barn (she lives in the charming house nextdoor) is very kind and helpful. I highly recommend the experience!
