Friendly staff but building/bedding awful, April 29, 2008

Stayed there for 1 night in April 08 with a group of children. The building needs serious updating and money spent on it. The bedrooms were awful, windows unsafe, some matresses split, covers and sheets had holes in. Bedrooms although not dirty were neglected. Holes in the ceiling and around the basins, basins hadn't been cleaned. The bunk beds didn't have ladders or barriers so that wasn't good for the children. Can't comment on the showers as no-one in the party wanted to use them. Kitchen, TV and common room were ok.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

Even though it was cheapish we wouldn't stay there again as a group.

The central location is useful for Brittany Ferries and the town centre.

I stayed at the Plymouth Backpackers Hostel last July because I went to a concert at the Plymouth Pavillion.

The Staff was nice and friendly.

About the showers: there are (private) bathrooms in the upper floors, where you can take your shower, but everytime I tried, they were busy.

I managed to sneak in there to brush my teeth and I thought the bathrooms looked allright...maybe a little bit flooded...*laughs*

Downstairs, behind the kitchen you'll find two 20p operated showers. If you ask the staff, they'll give you the 20p, you don't have to pay it.

My room was quite nice, the only thing I didn't like was, that I had to climb up the upper bed, because there was o ladder....and first of all I am not athletic and I don't weigh just 80 Pounds!!!

Bed kept shaking and I was afraid it would break, cos it was made of wood.On top of that it was 1 am, so I was afraid, I would wake up the other girls with my noise.

The other guest were all polish people who tried to find work there.

One guy slept in the TV room, which really wasn't too nice.

One more thing: be careful about the hole in the kitchen floor, I steped into it and hurt my ankle!

Would probably stay there again, but because of the location only!

m-kay, I know my stay at Plymouth Backpackers International Hostel wasn't very long, but I really felt right at home! the staff was really nice and helpful and it was a neat and tidy place....one problem though....my best friend would be to short to have a shower, for which you also have to pay (the metres take 20p coins only!!)....other than that my stay was bliss...
