We didn´t know anything about this place, we had only seen it at pictures on the net, and the pictures looked nice. When we arrived we were shocked. The impression we got from the staff were that they didn´t care. In the room the wallpaper was hanging down, the carpet that covered the floor were dirty and my boyfriend that is a little allergic to dust couldn´t be in the room without sneezing. The little TV didn´t work. The bathroom was small and smelled. It was impossible to get rid of the feeling that you would get a disease when you touched the toilet, the refrigerator or the floor. And I´m not afraid of dirt normally.. The breakfast was a joke, a morose man that smelled garbages made the dishing, while you were supposed to toast cheap, dry bread by yourself. If you don´t loose your apetite by the smell, you surtainly do it when you pick up the overcooked, green egg from the saucepan. The only great thing was when we found a hanger in the closet with the text "We love our costumers", it gave us a good laugh.

I do not agree with all the negative reviews the hostel has been given so far. We booked a shared female room, but as those were all fully booked, the guy from the hostel offered us a room just for the three of us, without having to pay extra. The room was large, the shower great, hot water (NOT OVERFLOWING) and the room even had a tv! To name some negative points: the room was not very clean and there were not enough towels or cutlery, but if you ask the management they will provide these. If you don't expect a neat hotel, but a typical hostel this is the place to be, perfectly in the heart of Londen.

I went on a european tour of Stockholm, Rovaniemi, Amsterdam and London last month. London was the final leg of my tour and really regretted not referring to this website for the reviews, cos whatever was posted here before me were spot on. It was an absolute appalling place to stay in. For a start, the hotel name 'Monocrown Court' was nowhere present. I believe the paint peeled off and no effort was put in to restore it.The room allocated to me was on a high floor there were so many flight of stairs i cant remember which floor i ended up. THe staff even gave me the wrong room, i had to come all the way down and tell them only to be laughed at by them. The new room was distatsteful, the bed even collapsed. Like what the others mentioned, the shower overflowed, it even smelled. Worse of all the floor was tilting to oneside and was every bit unstable. Fed up with it i checked out that very nite, and managed to find an accomodation at nearby Paddington, which was much better! To be honest the guy there was kind enough to give some refund, i am grateful for that. But even more honestly, if i could give zero stars for rating, i would.Dun say u havent been warned.

Originally booked a room with en suit shower, but had to share with another couple.the shower over flowed, asked the staff to clean it but they didnt, had to clean it ourselves and nearly felt sick.the room itself was okish but the sink was dirty on arrival.the bed(bunks)were ok&clean.as said by others, only use as a last resort, staff dont seem to be quite there, one was smoking and on mobile making social calls, not good for service.ive found a cheaper place and better, try Gainsborough studios North London.

I really wouldn't recommend this hotel to people who intend to spent more than some hours of sleep in this hostel. The first shock for us was when we were told that our room was on the top floor (7th floor). As mentioned in another review the stairs are very narrow and steep (and didn't look very stable either). However, once at the top we noticed that we had some kind of balcony (the fire exit). The room itself was not as bad as I had imagined after reading the other reviews, but I wouldn't call it cosy anyway. The floor was rather dirty, the door handle to the "bathroom" was broken and we didn't dare to use the fridge or the oven. The windows had bars what created a sort of prison - like feeling. The worst was the shower - there was as good as no water coming out of it and so we had to fill it in an empty Evian bottle and pour it over our bodies to shower. After cleaning the room (especially the shower and the toilet, which were rather disgusting) by ourselves, it became supportable. I can't say anything about breakfast, I never got up on time to try it. The best I can say about the hostel is that it is only a two minutes' walk to Bayswater and Queensway station. There are also a lot of cheap and good restaurants in the neighboorhood. Well, all in all I think you can't (and should) not expect more than this at such a low price. We survived quite easily, and note that we were used to Swiss standards *g*

I booked this hostel online as a FEMALE dorm, but to my surprise, a guy opened the door to my room on the 4th floor. But he turned out to be really nice so I didn't bother complaining. The tv was all fuzzy, the bathroom was so small you almost had to breath in to get past the sink to go to the toilet or shower. I didn't dare try and use the oven, in fear that it might blow up the building. When it says 'Breakfast Included' they mean you have to make your own toast in a TWO slice toaster. So you could be there waiting in line for the toaster all morning. Overall, I too would recommend this hostel as a last resort. As for the reception area, there were 3 guys sitting there talking to each other, not looking or sounding interested in what you had to say. The only good thing I can really say about this hostel is that I made some really cool friends with the people that I shared my room with (even the friendly French GUY).Good luck!

This place looks nothing like the pictures that I found of it on the internet. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure if the pictures were of the same place. Just trying to find the place was close to impossible. It's only a five minute walk from the metro but the directions they gave on the internet were worthless. (If you are trying to find: Once off the metro, take a right and then it is the first left. At the end of that street, take a right and it's on your left hand side. Sorry, I don't have street names) Not to mention, the metro guard, a police officer, a store worker, and a restaurant owner who were all within 2 minutes of the place had never even heard of the hostel.Once we finally found it, we were disgusted to find the reception area filled with a cloud of smoke. Check-in was not a problem, which was the only beneficial part of the stay. Our room was about ten flights up narrow dirty stairwells that smelled. The room was not too small but so dirty and disgusting, it was hard to imagine that they hadn't been shut down for health code violations. The TV in the room didn't work, the shower overflowed, and there were rodent traps in the bathroom. There were, however, clean sheets on the bed and clean towels provided, which we were grateful for. The place had pretty poor security, as in no security. All in all, I'm sure you could find a better place. The price was right, but unless you are really desperate to find a place to stay, I'd use Monocrown as a last resort.
