i've been to london four times now and this is without doubt the best hostel i've every stayed in. the staff will help you with anything at all and they are all so much fun and cool people. they clean the hostel two times every day and the ktichen is always neat and clean. the beds are big and there is a locker for every person under the bed. breakfast is free and good for you - fresh fruit every morning and good coffee wth cereal and toast.
they are two minutes walk from huge hyde park which is beautiful and the tube is just across a road. i love it here and will come back with all my friends.

The room in which I stayed was a very small 8 beds dorm. Not really clean. The price is quite ok, but you can find somenthing much cheaper in the same area. The staff is a bit strange: they "forgot" to give me back the key deposit...Positive: the decoration of the building is really funny!

My girlfriend and i stayed here for four nights. As a first time traveller, i appreciated that the staff were willing to answer pretty much any question i threw at them (no matter how stupid!). breakfast was included in the price, and was filling and varied (fresh fruit each morning) with as much coffee as you could drink. we were just across the road from hyde park and the tube station was two minutes away. i was woken upeach morning by the vacume cleaner, but it wasn 't too early (around 10.30). overall - really friendly, and quite small so it was easy to talk to people.

We stayed in a double room for four days and had a wonderful time at the quest. i think it is right that the people have changed because everything was great - even like a hotel. we had chocolate on our pillows when we arrived, and flowers in the room! i think the dorms would be more basic but it was nice. the staff were great and very nice to us, and kept our passports and cameras in the safe for us. thank u!

i was surprised to read the other reviews of this hostel (which were all made quite a while ago so i guess there are new people here by now!)i loved the quest and will definately be back! the staff were ultra friendly - happy to give me so much information and tips on where to go, how to save money... anything i asked. the rooms were very clean, our bathroom was cleaned twice every day and the entire hostel vacumed and cleaned every day. there were lockers in the room and a safe in reception. a fun atmosphere with cool people... i made some really good friends here. and all for £10 per night which is about standard for london i think.

After staying in the Hyde Park Hostel which is owned by the same company I was not expecting much. And I did not receive much more than the other one. This place was also filthy but the rooms were cleaner. The rooms themselves have been remodeld recently so there are lockers under the beds and the bunks are sturdy with decent mattresses. That is the only good thing going for the hostel though. The reception has trash everywhere. I don't think the place has been vaccuumed for years. The halls also had a funky urine like smell. Of the 3 hostels I stayed at in London I would not go here again. Actually I don't think I will stay at anything this company owns ever again.

The location is cool, how can I complain when I was paying 9,50 GBP a night? So well, my bed was on the 6th floor. Not quite funny with the large backpack. But well, I paid 9.50. So I suppose the cheaper you pay, the higher you go. and well, I stayed there for 2 nights, and the same staff was working at the reception, and maybe it was me, I dont know, but he was unfriendly. The bathroom was working and all, not too clean, not too dirty. but Fine by me. I had a better bed elsewhere for 7.50 though.

Well this was my first hostel experience, and sorry, but if this is what hostel life is like I can assure you I will not be visiting one again. We had 5 flights of thin stairs to scale to our twin room, which consisted of two very small, hard beds and wafer-thin pillows. The carpet throughout was horrendous, but was being replaced as we left. The room was hot, although with London's recent heatwave I guess that can't be helped. The staff simply walked right into the room without knocking during the middle of the day as we slept to escape the heat, twice. As consolation, the toilet WAS right next-door, but ran out of toilet paper and the lightbulb blew... both took about a day to fix. However the atmosphere was fun, if a little crowded.Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this and can not reccomend to anyone.

My first encounter with the Astor Quest was in January 2003. My boyfriend and I were travelling and decided we wanted to settle in a cool atmostphere where we could get to know some people and relax after work without being harrassed by immature teenagers like we had found in so many other hostels around Europe. Thank god we came to the Quest. This place was full of cool people, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly as well as all the other guests (except for your typical harmless crazies often found in hostel living). Unfortunately we had to leave but decided to stop in again in March. This time, different people but still the same friendly atmosphere. The rooms and bathrooms are pretty clean for being a hostel. The location is great, close to the tube and mainline buses. The kitchen is a bit small making it difficult to cook at times, however it is well equipped and plenty of refrigerator space. We will definitely stay here again throughout our travels and would recommend it to anyone looking for place to stay in London.
