My husband and I are in our late 40's and have stayed at the St. Pancras YHA twice now--for a week in April, 2005 and just recently for five days (late May, early June, 2006). Our stays were very enjoyable--I highly recommend this hostel. It is very clean, the facilities are good--the bathrooms are numerous, clean and have hooks in the appropriate places--and the staff has always been very helpful and polite. There is a TESCO supermarket around the corner, Kings Cross Station is right down the street and the British Library is directly across the street.
The full English or continental breakfast is included in the price--it is delicious and they will pack a continental breakfast for you if you depart before the restaurant opens.
Pros:
Good location, excellent decor, quiet and very clean
Cons:
Little atmosphere

YHA St. Pancras is excellent for people travelling by public transport. Kings Cross, St. Pancras and Euston rail stations are all very close by, the bus stop outside has a good selection of buses, and there are tube stations at Kings Cross and Euston. Camden town is only a 10-15 minute walk away, and the university of London, Bloomsbury with its musuems and Marylebone are close by. The reception sells a range of travel cards. Security at the hostel was excellent with an entry system, individual lockers and keycard dorm entry. My six bedded dorm was lovley and clean and spacious with good storage facilities. I was suprised at how quiet it was given the room faced onto the very busy Euston Road - the window was well glazed and the traffic could not be heard. The bathroom and shower facilites were private and excellent. I had one evening meal during my three night stay. It was okay, but not great. The catering staff are not the most helpful or cheerful people. Breakfast was included in the price of the room, and was a range of fruit, cereals etc. and cooked items. I was very impressed that they also offered vegetarian sausages, and found the choice huge. I did not use the self catering facilities. I managed to lose my breakfast pass and it was replaced without charge. The major thing about this hostel was that it is large and impersonal, and there was little socialising going on. I think this is found in most large city hostels. The reception also served as the lounge, and the way it was set up did not encourage mixing. Few people actually used it. That siad, I would stay there again for its location and standard of facilities.
