The Clink is so new that it doesn't seem to have a sign up yet. I walked past it twice and was so annoyed I started eyeing the nearby Holiday Inn out of desperation.
Then, out of the corner of my eye, I caught a makeshift computer print-out by a door saying "Clink." The interior was so sterile and lifeless I did a double-take and wondered if perhaps I'd stumbled into a working courthouse or dentists' office by mistake. A small stack of sheets behind the desk was the only clue that it was indeed a hostel.
Being a single female traveller, I wasn't impressed with the lack of gender-specific dorms since their website asked me if I was male or female. Fearing a room full of manly backpacker BO stench, I threatened to walk out but a friendly staff member assured me no males would be put in my four-person room. So I ended up with a room to myself - bonus!!!
The room was clean and utilitarian and the location was within easy walking distance of King's Cross station. The downside was no common area (apparently they'll eventually get around to it). Curiously, there was also no mention of the promised "free breakfast."
But for £14, I barely cared. The only place you're going to get cheaper than that is the ACTUAL Clink.
