Unless things have changed in the past couple of years this gets my vote for being one of the worst YHA's that I have ever had to sleep in. I guess if I hadn't been fresh off the plane from NZ I would have gone somewhere else but I needed sleep. The showers were cold, the kitched was dirty, and for christs sake no Hostel should ever have a curfew. However there are worse places to stay in London, but I would have to be pretty desperate to want to sleep here again.

I've been there for 7 days. (August 2003) The hostel is ...almost clean, clean for english standards but a bit too expensive. I slept in a 4 bedded room with some of my friends, the room was a bit small for 4 people. The position in the good-key of this hostel. Easily access to the tube at Earl's court station. The location is eye-pleasant (really) and with lots of facilities around (markets, pubs etc.). They give you a packed breakfast wich was not the best brekfast of my life but was rich. (some milk, cornflakes, snacks, apple, orange juice, jam, bread). Usually we had breakfast inside the basement kitchen wich was very clean and well equiped. The people that used the tools was very clean too, fortunately. Staff was friendly but not too much. The showers, even if many people use them, was pretty clean, but you might have very small hands if you want to wash them in that mini-small sink. (a funny thing:.. there was two different pipes for hot and cold water... probably they didn't know yet they can use a mixed one..).. I suggest to request at reception for lockers to lock your baggage inside the room. I've enjoyed, after my days spent mostly inside the tube for see the more places possible we used to (try to) talk with other visitors inside the room for smokers, and there was always a lot of funny and interesting people to talk with.I enjoyed my week in london at this hostel, maybe i could have choose a better hostel, but this was my first trip in an hostel and i found it confortable. Hope to come back in london one day..

Very well presented hostel. Clean with good showers. One of the best presented dorm rooms I have seen on tour, with good sized lockers, carpeted floor and central heating. Very nice, quiet area of town. 5 minutes to the Underground. I'd stay there again.A few little cons. The floor in the dorm room was really squeaky, which is a minor thing, but one which can really upset the ambience. Didn't notice this till the last night, but looking closely at the receipt shows 3 pound 60 is added to the nightly rate for breakfast. I'm not sure if you can opt out of this. To their credit though, it's a decent sized meal, in an airline style box.

Me and grilfriend we found this to be not the greatest youth hostel but well... it did the trick. Not the greatest because the rooms are very small. I'm and 1m82cm height and my grilfriend is taller and we had to alternate night's to sleed on the floor and been albe to strecht our legs. Bathroom very small and outside the beedroom. Staff is ok, the breakfast is served on plastic containers and not my type, my grilfriend love it. Nice ambience too has we found people from 16 to 70 on a very peacefull enviroment. Members kitchen is ok. bad is the fact that no launch or dinner is served.Best thing is the proximity to the subway, and all this other places where you can by food and other stuff. Good bar zone. Also good is the fact that you can have a little walk to Knightsbridge and see the Cience, Natural History and Vitoria and Albert museeum's. All great and free. You can also walk to Hyde Park and Notting Hill. Here in Portugal youth hostels are far more bigger and better.( been there in february 2003 )Best : accessibilityworst : accomodation

Me and my wife stayed there from 27th Nov till 30th Nov 2003. Although our twin room was booked more than one month ahead, we got probably the worst room in the building. We were given room B5, whichwas on the basement and just below the Meeting room on the ground floor. All the time we heard footsteps and all. The room was extremely small.Other than one pair of bunk bed, there was nothing and no place to sit or to spread open your luggage. Toilets are outside and clean. But showersare horrible. Showers are fixed to the wall and water falls almost on the wall instead on you. So you have to be close enough with the wall itself.Showers are not suitable for tall people. Since we had problem with room B5, we asked for another room and we were shifted to room B10. Same"facilities" as before without the noise. Room was few square inches bigger with two chairs. If you have lots of luggage, you will have to struggle toget downstairs through the staircase. The lights in the room were very low (I mean Very). Now the good things. The Basement kitchen was very wellequiped and clean with all the standard facilities (microwave, electric oven, refrigerator, cupboards, racks, plates, cups etc.) The breakfast was verygood. (cornflakes, milk, bread roll, pie, apple, jam, butter, coffee, tea, hot chocholate, orange juice etc) Staffs at the reception were friendly andhelpfull. My major complain is about the room and the beds. We paid 52GBP for the room per night and it was surely not worth. About security, Wefound our room kept unlocked after the cleaning lady had finished her work inside our room. Next time if I am there, I will look for somethingbetter. The place is unbeatable. its only three minutes walk from Earls Court Tube station.

This was the second hostel we stayed at in London (City of London was the first). I wouldn't rate it as highly as the first hostel however it was still very pleasant. We had no trouble finding this hostel. The staff were very helpful and the place was full of Aussies so we felt quite at home. The walls were peeling a bit however, the showers & toilets were clean as were the bed sheets (very important!). The breakfast was a pack containing food such as cereal, apple, fruit bar and a roll or croissant. This was quite a bit of food and meant that you could take the apple & fruit bar with you when you went sightseeing...thus saving you a bit of money. I was a bit disappointed that the TV room with cable happened to be the smokers lounge. This meant that us non-smokers had to watch crappy programs on a beat up old TV. The hostel was conveniently close to the Earls Court underground station, restaurants, post office and some pubs. I enjoyed my stay there

This hostel is one of the best I've ever stayed in. It's in a really nice area of town, out of the way of the constant London busy-ness but not stranded in the middle of nowhere. The rooms are nice and clean and the beds are relatively comfortable. There are two nice common/TV rooms (one smoking, the other one non-smoking) with a nice set out so that it's easy to meet people (plus over 100 channels on the TV!). The price (16.80 POUNDS for a backpacker bed) is pretty good for London as well. But what really made this place was the people: very cool and laidback and easy to talk to if you make the effort. All in all, a brilliant place to spend a few days.

This hostel is really charming: it's on a beautiful, quiet street in a great old building. The staff are very helpful and there are 2 large lounge-rooms with TVs and internet - both are great for hanging out, residents congregate and meet. The main drawback is that at night if you're out partying out of earl's court (leicester sq. for example), the tube is closed after midnight and you have to locate a night bus or take a taxi.
