BUG Review
Abercorn House is a relatively clean and well-maintained hostel that caters for travellers working in London (the minimum stay is one week). It has the usual TV lounge plus a laundry and several small kitchens but there is not much atmosphere. It's on a quiet residential street in Hammersmith, west of central London.
Price Dorm bed £55-60 per week Single room £110 per week Double/twin room £140 per week Prices are in local currency and are inclusive of all taxes.

PLEASE KEEP AWAY FROM HERE !! This looks more like a sleazy resort lost in the forests of Borneo or Melanesia, not Central London. No experience or friendliness from the staff, after you pay they forget about you. I reported my stuff being stolen in my room and I asked to get my bed linen changed after two weeks, they just shrugged their shoulders !! the kitchen is absolutely empty, not even a dish or fork. Toilets were extremely dirty. Smell of stale and smoke everywhere. No atmosphere whatsoever. NO LOCKERS or safety box and I've got my Ipod stolen from my luggage - even though I closed it with my padlock, they forced. No safety, cleanliness, friendliness of staff or janitors or anything to turn to for help !!!! I left the place SO ANGRY I would never come back again.

-had my backpack stolen out of my room-good showers-new kitchens but no utensils or anything, so u need your own which is crap-good location, close to hammersmith tube stn-sky tv is good, but annoying as u have to ask reception to switch channels-lots of really weird, older people... unusual for the kind of hostels i usually stay in which are typically full of people under 28yrs-one night i came home to have some chunky soup or something spilled on my bed... i only had 2 roommates and i asked them what happened, they denied it and told me that i must have done it-bed bugs, lots of em-one weird staff janitor guy, always trying to touch the women...goes to far a lot of the TIME(

Every now and again, even professional backpackers slip-up. From the outside Abercorn seems fine, but this old nurses home has some big problems in its etiquette. Firstly, the TV room is ok (except for the camera and the fact you have to inform the staff which channel to watch). Most of the residents are ok too. But the staff, who all seem to be eastern European immigrants are slow (it took about half an hour to check in - on a Friday I had no other choice having lugged my bags across London) made no mention of the fact there were no kitchen utensils, no kettle, no microwave, no plates (luckily I carry my own cuttlery and bowl), not even any washing up liquid. Thankfully one of the guys next door let me use his microwave. The staff said it was 'unsafe' to have things in the kitchen, meaning they had been stolen or would be if they bought new items - which says something. Nor would they refund me (of course). The showers get better the more floors you go up, so although there were some near my room I went to the 3rd floor where they were in a tolerable condition but nowhere to hang things. It looks as if they are renovating from the top down as the kitchens look better too - still no facilities though. So your best bet is to pay a fiver extra and stay in the more reliable hostels in Earls Court.

I stayed at AH because it was cheap for several weeks. I had nowhere else to go at that time on my budget (not working). If I had known who to report it too, I would have. I blacklisted it to student organizations-most of the people there are students or backpackers-but some are long-term residents, more's the pity. This was a horrible place to stay. There were bedbugs, roaches, and indifferent staff to both problems. I reported both and neither was taken seriously. I also came down with an absolutely horrible case of bedbugs-and I still have the marks after 4 or 5 months. There was noise to all hours-past midnight-and no one seemed concerned. Marijuana and hash smoke in the halls. The flooring was torn up-not because of renovation, just generally in bad shape. The bathrooms were simply atrocious-if you sat down you couldn't stand up without opening the door, and only one or two toilets worked (flushed)per floor. There were only 4 toilets per floor anyway, and they were never clean. The whole place was dirty. The kitchen outlets and oven didn't work. The 2nd floor on down worked better but had roaches. The bathroom and shower stall doors didn't close. The showers flooded outside the bathroom entrance, and the pipes were exposed and broken. I hope this review helps deter the unprepared!
