BUG Review
Holland House YHA consists of three buildings, including the original Holland House, with a great location in a big park off High Street Kensington. Although the hostel incorporates the façade of the magnificent building, inside it is dull and lacking in character. Accommodation is mostly in 12 and 20-bed dormitories and common areas include a TV lounge, a quiet lounge, dining room and a kitchen.

My sister and i came to this hostel after a horrible stay at Globetrotters in Hammersmith. The staff were friendly and lovely and the hostel is clean. we were in a 20 bed dorm but had the best nights sleep than we'd had in 4 bed dorms!!! with the exception of one night when a girl was completely off her face and going around abusing everyone, but the staff were onto it very quickly and handle the situation in a fantastic way. the breakfast was good, you have choice and its in a fantastic location. I know its in a park and after dark it can be daunting for some but i never felt unsafe, it was well-lit and the area didn't feel to bad anyway. a little pricier than other hostels but worth it :)

Comfortable bunks in a good area, November 24, 2006

this hostel is more expensive than other London hostels, but having stayed at a couple of different ones in London, this is the one that I would return to. both times I stayed in a 20 bed dorm in the old building and initially i was a bit hesitant but the room is quite big, with good sized lockers. the only downside is the design of the bunks - they are group in three with no ladders so it can feel like sleeping in open coffins and you hav to step on peoples shelves to get to your bunk if its on the top. having said that though, the top bunks are best as you have the most privacy.

the staff were friendly and the buildings, while older, are clean. its lovely that it is set in a nice park, there is a path that runs along it, but if you dont want to walk up there at night, you can walk along pimlico gardens street and still be able to get to the hostel.

breakfast is included and you can have either continental or english. it may not have a lot of atmosphere as there tends to be more groups, but it is safe and clean, and thats what i consider to be the most important criteria.

I came to this hostel after staying in a disgusting Hell hole just down the road.. So so beautiful. Is institutionalised (but who cares??) - is in a park with a bit of a dark street but is in one of the wealthiest neighbourhoods in London and it is soooooo nice to feel rich and part of the the elite even if it is only for a night!! Agree with all the others comments, is a bit expensive - but this is London!! Really easy to get to everything, Easy Internet Cafe nearby, loads of shops, loads to do - STAY HERE!!!!!!

I just stayed in Holland House this past weekend. It´s about a ten-minute walk from High St. Kensington Tube station, which is all right, but the hostel itself is located in the heart of the park, about a five-minute walk up a dimly-lit hill. It´s really sketchy if you´re a girl traveling by yourself... the sun sets at about 2 pm in November, so you will definitely be returning to the hostel in the dark.

That out of the way, the outside of the hostel is really beautiful (the inside not so much, but whatever), the breakfast is all right, but the Internet is EXPENSIVE.

The tube stop being pretty close is nice, since that´s how I did most of my sightseeing. It opens at 7 a.m., so if you´ve got a early train to catch from Victoria Station, call a cab instead! Also, buy a Day Pass for the Tube if you are exploring (even at night), it´s FAR less expensive than a one-way pass! And if you like antique markets, hit up Notting Hill Gate on Saturday mornings, which is the stop right after High St. Kensington.

This was the first hostel I'd stayed in for a while, and I loved it. The setting was beautiful and park-like (well, not just "like"--it IS a park), yet very close to Kensington High Street, for access to the tube, shopping, and everything else I needed. It had the advantages of being "institutional" (being well-organized, for example), but still had personality. The staff was great, even after I lost my padlock key and the brave counter man had to come cut the lock off my locker at midnight in a room full of sleeping women. There were public rooms for hanging out, for TV, or for quiet. There was a library of travel guides, and a book exchange, which I found really handy. There was a kiosk for Internet access, but I never tried it: it was usually occupied, and the EZEverything on Kensington High St was so convenient.

The bunks were the most comfortable and best-designed I encountered in my 6-week trip: in each one, you had a private space with a reading light and a little shelf, with a locker nearby.

The food was OK, as well. They even made a valiant attempt at Eggs Benedict one morning I was there. It wasn't half bad.

I will stay there again.
