Pros: i guess it's somewhat better than having nowhere to sleep...

stayed here in october. the hostel is really far out of london, the people there long term are really rude and just sit around all day. the tv area is too small, there's one table in the kitchen. it's old looking and boring. the worst thing is the people that work there think it's fantastic and better than any central hostel, but seriously you can get a much friendlier, cleaner and more fun hostel in central london (like the astor victoria), and cheaper too. the reception staff are nice, but that's the only thing going for it.

Not the worst place in London, but for £1 or £2 more you could be staying somewhere really nice.

Located in zone 3 (so add an extra £1 for transport). Would be ok to stay a night or two if you're desperate, but I wouldn't stay here any longer. Poor bathroom facilities, no oven (they have a cooktop and microwave though) and no powerpoints in room.

Free internet was good.

The place is a bit on the older side and could use some work, but is convenient to the tube. Dorm rooms are lacking in quality, especially in the female quarters, but the private rooms are okay (if you can afford it, that's what I recommend). Showers, while not spotless and new, nonetheless have hot water and reasonably clean facilities--better than a lot of places I've seen. The main drawbacks are being a ways out from the center of London and lack of adequate cooking utensils and facilities. However, if you're eating out most of the time (as I was) this shouldn't factor in your decision. The staff and long-term residents are a friendly lot and do what they can to make it a pleasant stay. Overall, not the worst choice I've made in hostels throughout Britain and Ireland--you get what you pay for.

This hostel is okay if you only need somewhere to stay for a couple of nights and you don't mind staying next to a busy intersection where the noise from the traffic can make it very hard to sleep.

The facilities are pretty standard, the showers are just okay at least they are hot. The cooking facilities aren't enough for the amount of people that the hostel holds. So plan to eat out most nights or prepare a salad.

The beds are ordinary at best, don't come here if you are looking for comfort.

The best thing about the hostel are the people are friendly and that you are very close to the tube. There are better hostels in London for the same price, i certainly wouldn't come here if i had extra cash.

ok, so this place was by far the worst hostel i stayed at. my bed was in a room with 11 other ladies, no lock on the door, no secured area to store your stuff. the bed stank of who knows what, was uncomfortable, cold, and a streetlight shone over the whole of my body all night. not that i could think about sleeping anyways with the rude people who stayed there up all night or getting up at 6am. staff was nice, certainly, and the kitchen/common room area was quite nice. but only being able to use the bathroom at certain hours is not. i don't plan to pee at certain times, so being told i had to wait an hour until women could use the bathroom was not really acceptable. oh, and the showers sucked, of course. kind of far out from central london too. but hell, it was cheap, and that was what i needed.

North London Backpackers is not the classiest of the hostels in London, but it is a good place to stay if you are planning to be around for a while. It's quite a way from Central London, and so if you are only in town for a few days sightseeing it may not be the best place to stay. However, for people planning to stay in London a while, perhaps to work, this is the kind of hostel you will probably like.

It's a relatively small place, but that makes it easier to get to know people and to feel at home. There are a good number of long-termers, especially Kiwis and Israelis, working in London. In terms of price, you will be hard pressed to find anything cheaper in London.

Facilities are not bad, with a kitchen, lounge, TV area and games room. There's no curfew either, and the place is fairly laid-back.
