This hostel is above a pub next to a shopping centre surrounding the Shepherd's Bush tube station. It features a big common room, but there is no kitchen. Although there aren't a lot of facilities, it is a pretty good place to stay with clean rooms and good quality mattresses.

As one of 3 Aus chicks, we stayed at the hostel for 4 nights in October 2004. For last minute accomodation (everything else was booked out), the place was quite good. We found the staff were friendly and welcoming if you actually made an effort to be polite and outgoing. The bar downstairs (Belushi's) was fantastic, particularly for the awesome cocktails and cheap drinks, as well as the wicked atmosphere when the rugby was on... Some of the toilets were filthy but that was only because the poor cleaning staff hadn't got round to those toilets yet, and some inconsiderate people had vomited everywhere. There was enough showers for everyone, although sometimes you had to trek upstairs to use toilets up there, and dorms were pretty standard regarding facilities, although there was extra security with little lockers below the beds for your valuables. The bunk beds were fine, and it was really good that each room required you to have the access key to enter. The location was fine, not in the centre of the city but it was very easy to access the city via the tube station directly across the road!!! There were a few dodgy people hanging around outside at night, but you get that in London. It was brilliantly close to the supermarket and other shops. Internet access was expensive but good enough. And the food wasn't too bad in the bar downstairs either. Finally, all the people we met seemed pretty friendly and funny, mostly aussies and new zealanders who were all pretty relaxed and fun. So it was pretty good...

Loved this hostel.

Heaps of cool staff that work the bar and hostel.

Clean rooms, even though a bit pokey. Super comfy beds and giant doonas with hell comfy pillows. Great for end of travel weariness.

Belushis kicks ass. 241 coronas and VBs (not so great) before 8pm is tops.

Had a full room, with people coming and going. Didnt seem to be too many long termers at the end of feb.

Breakfast was great. All you can eat cereal, coffee and toast. Variety.

Great location. 50m walk to tube station (zone 2). Movies, walkie, sainsburys all close.

How could you go wrong, and for 9.50 per night, I wasnt complaining.

Only dodgy showers...but hey you only spend 5 mins there and they are clean!

Hostel is decent. I stay anywhere from hostels to 5 star hotels. A hostel score points when the staff is nice, the hostel is clean & well located. This hostel has those qualities. And it is inexpensive! I paid only 8.50 pounds/night for my most recent stay (booking online) & it recently went up to 9.50. Still inexpensive!

Why does it not get a 5 star. It can be a little noisy & smokey at night (can't help it since it is above a pub). Although I am sensitive to tobacco smoke, I did just fine. The hostel has my repeat business! A nice find. :)

at anywhere else, our double room (priced at about $80 USD after taxes and such) would be outrageously expensive, but for london, not bad at all. pretty spartan but very clean... we had two bunk beds, a chair, a sink, and a minifridge (a pleasant surprise!). our bathroom was alright, but it had a push button shower and tended to sort of flood the floor (which was concrete with a drain, so who cared). the staff was very nice, and the hostel has keycard locks so i felt very secure. overall nice location (right across the street from the tube station), but staying in zone 1 would have been nice. breakfast was toast with jam and tea or coffee... definitely not posh, but what can you expect? if you can get a deal someplace else, go for it, but we were very pleased with st. christopher's.

The place is clean and nice. They have a nice bar and a big meeting room downstairs. Rooms felt safe, you had a access key to each room.

I had a problem with the price. I made a reservation and when I got there the price was much higher than what they told me, I believe it was about 5 pounds a night more than I expected. They had raised their prices and would only give me a 10 % off which was not the price difference.

They claim to give you breakfast, but I didn't seem like it. It looked like to me that they had some crackers out some coffee. I was there 3 days/night and I never saw any more breakfast in the morning.

The atmosphere is people who came to London to live/work. In my room of 4, the 3 other guys had jobs and woke up very early (about 6 in the morning alarms were going off). Few of the people I met in the meeting room were traveling, they were living there for months.

It is in a nice location. It is a cetral underground stop and it is right next to the hostel. Also next to it is a shopping mall and a great pub to go to on weekends (the Walkabout).

I have my complaints but I might give this place another try the next time I go to London.

Really loved this hostel! After staying at several awful hostels around London I was delighted with this one. It's clean, and cheap (for London), has a bar, great chill out room AND security. Surprised how many hostels don't, but this one offers swipe cards into rooms. Very close to everything- city, parks, shopping, cinemas. Also handy for transport being close to the tubes. And 24hr access, which is just what you need to allow for exploration of the London after dark.

Howdy

well I stayed here from 1998-2000 when it was under different owners methinks. Back then it was okay. It definitely looks cool now !

For people coming to London I have to say this is the BEST LOCATION !

- it takes 20 minutes to walk to Notting Hill or Hammersmith, 30 mins to walk to Bayswater/Queensway, 1 hour to walk on the main road to the main city. There are two different tube line stops nearby, if one should break down you can walk to the other.

There are 1-2 24 hour convenience stores/dairies.

Supermarket and Midland bank are literally next door.

Walkabout Tavern is just 5 mins away. A major concert venue is just 5 mins down the road "Shepherds Bush Empire" - hang outside when a show starts and get a cheap ticket off the ticket scalpers when the crowds have died down !

If you stayed here in this period I would like to get in touch if you remember a New Zealand Chinese guy !

xxx

I came over to London with some friends from Holland and was recommended by the London Tourist Board as being one of the newer hostels and indeed it was!!

When you book in you are given your key-card which also is a discount card for drinks and food in the hostels bar Belushi's which was full of some very attractive women! We did not need to move far for everything we wanted. The site is located very well for other bars and shops with the tube station directly opposite taking you into the center of London in just a few minutes. We very much enjoyed our stay and have joined the Bars and Beds Club which will give us cheaper beds the next time we come.
