BUG Review
England's largest YHA hostel is a family-oriented place with lots of facilities for kids. Other amenities include a bar, TV lounge, Internet access and a games room. The largest dorm has 10 beds but most have six beds and there are TVs in the double and twin rooms. It's in a nice quiet neighbourhood with modern low-rise apartments and canals. There is a big shopping centre near Canada Water tube station and it is about a 30-minute walk into the City. It is one of the few areas in London where finding a parking spot on the street is no problem.

A well-priced wheelchair friendly hostel, December 19, 2007
Reviewer: domba from Brisbane, Australia

Pros: It's location beside the Thames and handy to transport
Cons: The family rooms are a little tired

We are a family of 4, including an 18 year old son in a wheelchair. We chose this hotel to stay at last Xmas (2006) because it was advertised as wheelchair friendly, which indeed it was for us. The elevator got us to the family room with no hassles and while the bathroom was not huge, it was adequate for our son. He slept on the bottom bunk and had no complaints. The location was also perfect for getting into the city. We took the 381 bus, which was wheelchair accessible, or walked along the Thames - a highlight of our stay. The pub across the road is ideally situated and has good meals. The only slight drawback was that there was no kitchen operating at the hostel to prepare own food and the laundry facilties were unavailable at the time. However we would certainly stay there again.

We, a family of 4 from India stayed here in May,2002. The staff was helpful, the interiors OK (bathroom could have been better), Food too was OK.

In the evening, I and my 2 yr old son went out for a post-dinner stroll and were standing just in front of the main gate of the hostel. We were met by 3 local teenagers, one of them approached me and asked for a cigarette, he wanted it for some "other" purposes, like replacing the tobacco with something else. Hearing our talks, a security guard of hostel came by. Unfortunately he was dark-skinned and without any provocation these teenagers started to abuse him. Probably the guard was used to it and not much apart from words resulted.

That being our first visit to London, we were ignorant of the location. We just randomly selected the hostel. On meeting other fellow countrymen during our Europe tour, we found that other hostels are situated in more decent locations. So this time this hostel is my last choice in London.

quiet, clean, nice staff and big breakfast. the rooms are small and a little sterile, but the telly was good. very family/group oriented, so atmosphere was virtually non-existant, but still a solid alternative to the higher priced places closer in. public transport wise its in zone 2 so getting into town is a little pricier. great pub over the road on the thames

I stayed for 3 nights in January 2003 and I had a very good experience. It is not far from the centre, it is about 5 minutes from the nearest station.

I stayed in a 2 bed cell. It was not spacious but had tv.

The hostel is quiet and very clean. The staff is friendly and the food is 5 stars.
