BUG review
The Old Red Lion is not a public house as the name might suggest, but lovely traditional accommodation set in a quiet and quaint medieval village just a stone's throw from the castle remains. The hostel offers homely dorms and cosy common areas, a peaceful garden and home cooked vegetarian whole food making it perfect for a relaxing retreat.

On Wednesday 8th September I, and 2 friends, had the unfortunate experience to stay for the night at the above establishment. While the beds were clean and the rooms just about acceptable the breakfast arrangements were not. The breakfast was laid out in a large room the evening before with a loaf of bread partially covered with a cloth. The muesli was presented in an old tin with a lid. We were left to help ourselves from a not very clean fridge in a not very clean kitchen. Apple juice was available from an already opened container from the fridge. A bowl of fruit, with its cloud of small flies, which had been in the kitchen the night before, was presented on the breakfast table.

Excellent place to stop on the Peddars Way, lovely hostel
28 June 2010

Pros: Right on the Peddars Way trail where accommodation is very sparse, within reach of pub, cafe, shop.
Cons: No cooked breakfast. Aircraft noise from RAF training. Otherwise, no real drawbacks.

This is a lovely old hostel right on the Peddars Way trail in the centre of Castle Acre, just a stone's throw from the castle ruins. The dormitory bed was very comfortable and the shower and toilet facilities were good. There is a self-catering kitchen, and the landlady (Alison) is very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. One of the best places to stay I found on the trail.

I visited this beautiful old residence last year, not knowing it was an ex youth hostel. The dormitory was exellently appointed with pine, the garden was old world charm. One helped oneself to a natural breakfast in a outbuiding in the garden. The landlady was a delightful host. Everything is so picturesque, and am looking forward to returning in June

We stopped by this place to inquire and while we didn't stay, we found lovely private and shared rooms, a restored kitchen, quiet grounds, and the owner was as kind as one could be. We are saving this visit for a future trip.
