I normally enjoy the YHA smaller hostels but York seems to be the way the YHA are wanting to go. The atraction of large school parties and bus trips seem to me remove the goodness of what was a good hostel. The building itself is great and victorian but I sort of got a Hotel feel to it with some staff in Uniforms and trying to be a mimic of Hotels. But don't get me wrong if you get there and meet fellow backpackers you can have a great time but i felt many would aviod this type of YHA hostel just on the lack of atmosfere. There is lots to see in York and a lot to discover, cheap food can be found. Plus good beer also found.Overall I think if I was stuck in York this might be a good stop over, but not what I can call a hostel to meet backpackers.
