I was at this hostel recently and it has been completely renovated all of the old 1960 furnishings and fittings have been removed and everything is clean and comfortable. They serve great value home cooked meals (my mate and I had a curry with rice a nan bread, onion bahji and onion salad followed by sticky toffee pudding and custard all for £7.) We washed it down with a couple of bottles of real ale chosen from a selection of at least a dozen different ales (£2.10 a bottle)The owner lit the log burner in the dining room and we snoozed in the armchairs until bed time. Most of the guests were walkers and cyclists cos this place is well set up with a great drying room, cycle store etc. The bathroom is brand new and clean as a whistle. I wished I could have stayed longer but I was doing the Pennine way and had to get on to Kirk Yetholm but I am going back soon to do a bit of walking in the Cheviots.

This is a simple style hostel and beware carry your food as pub and food are a half mile walk. Its cheap at £8.20 a night. Its a little of the beaten track but cheap. Its a very basic hostel with not many great things to do if on your own and no one else staying..
