A very average hostel in a great location., April 17, 2007
Reviewer: frequentflyer from Yorkshire, England

Pros: Location, location, location!
Cons: It was very quiet, to the point of being creepy... we never saw anyone else while we were there!

Tallinn is a fascinating city with a beautiful historic part of town, and this hostel is right on the edge of it. A 2 minute walk to the Old Town and the tourist office, and 5 minutes away from the modern urban metropolis of today's Riga, this hostel straddles the city and the centuries. It is just around the corner from some very fancy 5* hotels, and far from the seedy strip clubs of stag-weekend territory, so you can be sure that the area is nice and safe. Inside the hostel, the rooms are basic and clean, but othing special. To be fair, we paid less to have a standard room - they were offering newly renovated rooms at a higher price, but we spent so little time in the hostel that our room was fine. The staff were nice and helpful, and dealt with things quickly; for example, upon arrival, our room stank of cigarette smoke, and when we went back to reception to ask if we could change, the woman on the desk seemed horrified that the room was like that and arranged a switch immediately. The only negative thing that you could say about this hostel was that it was very quiet, although I know that isn't always a negative thing. My friend and I weren't the only guests staying there, we heard other people, but we never saw anyone else in the bathrooms or the communal areas. Also, the price included breakfast, but the breakfast consisted of stale cornflakes and bad coffee... it would be better if you could pay less and opt out of it, because there are so many nice places to eat in Tallinn!
