Very central and clean, but not too much atmosphere, March 21, 2007
Reviewer: capozide from Essen, Germany

Pros: The location is perfect, within walking distance to everything
Cons: No community area to hang out apart the kitchen, which is not comfortable, without music or TV

The hostels pro is really the location. It is located within walking distance to all the clubs, shops, the few interesting parts of the city and the port area. It is clean, but there are only 2 showers and 2 toilets for quite a few people. I haven´t seen lockers there either. There is no room to hang out or socialize apart the fairly big kitchen, which is not really comfortabel and has only one internet computer (to pay!). If you just want to stay for some days getting to know the city is is great since you can walk to about everything. Apart this there is nothing special about the hostel. Check out the ferry to Tallinn, which is a wonderful city.

They served kind and speed service. When I sent e-mail, they did, since last October. And their writing manner is also great.:) I liked this point the most.:) and then, I visited this hostel with my finnish friend.:) then, she worried whether this hostel is good or not... and so on. Today, I write a letter to my finnish friend that you don't have to worry it, at all.

You know, a kind of Finnish custom in real life is so open-minded...Sharing Chocolates...:)

And thank all your staff and hostess for your smiling faces.:) Thanks to you all, I could make best memories in Suomi.:)

God bless you are.:)

...who stare at you when you come in at night to make sure you go straight to bed. No decent advise of any kind will be provided. Overpriced dorm beds.

The first thing i'd like to say is that this hostel is much better than what it looks from their website. So, if you happen to visit the site, don't get discouraged, ok it's not the all-ikea- brand-new type of hostel and a few things could be definitevely improved (VERY small toilets, way too many beds in the biggest dorm!!) but if you are looking for:

- a place with a REAL character

- a very central position

- meeting lots of people from everywhere

this is the place for you

I was travelling on my own and was a bit afraid this place was on the "wild parties" side but i was wrong... i met wonderful people in this hostel, and the nice kitchen-lounge gives you the chance to have all-through-the night talks, if you want, without going to the pub...

to me, it didn't feel unsafe at all, nor dirty, and all the staff were nice and friendly. the only complain i have is that 9 beds in a 4 beds room was a bit ...too much!!

Quite a cool place to stay when you're in Hellsinki! Hostel-wise it's not the best I've seen, but the staff is really nice! Plus, it's location is VERY central - you can walk there from the train station and back very easily (and all over Hellsinki if you're up to defying the bitter cold!). It's actually a converted neo-classical house (I think!) and it makes you feel right at home if you do not expect too many luxuries and you have a good sense of humor. The prices are OK for Scandinavian standards I guess - a double room is 55 euros. They don't serve free breakfast (that's a bummer!), but there's a lovely cafeteria-restaurant right next door where they serve very cheap coffee! The showers (both of them) look like prison showers to be honest, but I think that's wicked cool!;). If you're ever in Hellsinki, it's the best place to stay... Still, a word of advice: if you're looking for parties and extrovert people to socialize with - stay away from Hellsinki! Tampere and Turku are much better places (so I heard!). Oh, and the hostel has a very nice common room and neat cooking stuff you can use!

Cheers!

It isn't cheap but Helsinki generally isn't anyway. This place is central style, about 10 minutes walking from the main train station.

The dorms are ok, kinda smelly but clean and comfy beds. Toilets are clean and showers are too. Common room is great...very nice couches, tables, kitchen and net terminal. 2 fridges and lots of cooking gear. Buy a bunch of stuff from the wharfside market and cook it up here. Reindeer steaks anyone?

You have to get a pregame on here cause drinking ain't cheap here in Rock City, Suomi but the bars are great. The staff was cool as hell except for the night watch guy. Have fun here.

I have stayed here a few times.. firstly because it is in the best location..but mostly because other places have been booked out and this never is because its not very nice. The toilets don't lock and are in a main corridor..one of the showers again has no lock and no shower condition... the other is ok but one shower really isn't enough. Another night I stayed there a drunk man came in and started running around the halls screaming. The only security is a young girl on reception who was forced to deal with him... it's not the worst... go for a double room rather than a dorm and its ok... but for the same price you can go to the Eurohostel which is far nicer!

I stayed at this hostel in may 2003

its only a few minutes walk from the center which is always a big plus, the building it self is quite old,i felt like i had gone back in time when i walked into the hostel itself though its well kept.

The room was quite big and had 4 beds ( no bunks) a wardrobe ,sink ,desk and chair and a tv which i dont remember having in a hostel room before .

the only thing i wasnt happy with was my bed, the other 3 beds were nice proper ones but for some reason ( probably because of overbooking) my one was an old worn out travelbed and when i sat down on it i almost sank right to the floor and i hardly dared move incase it would fall apart.

Still a nice hostel and i would definately stay there again.

This is a pretty good place. Clean, friendly and 24 hour opening makes it work. Not too far from the train station (get the bus there from the airport for 3 Euros). Situated near quite a few bars, and a mere hop and skip from Esplanadi - a place to chill in the sun with mates and the Mad Bottle-Grabbing Woman (she rocks).

Price is a little on the expensive side (around EUR20), but that's Scandinavia for you. My dorm had four to a room (very comfy), but legend has it there are larger rooms around.

Best staff of trip so far, young friendly, helpful and cute. Good work Finland!

Have a good one!
