The hostel on rue Chantebel is being renovated. Temporarily, the youth hostel is on 1 rue Duplessis (the "castle"), in the picturesque old town, to the south of the railway station (15' walk) and the Nantes canal, and the west of the river Villaine. During the summer, guests stay in little houses which accomodate students during the university year. I don't know where guests are put up during the rest of the year. Anyway, it's a bargain: I paid 11.50 euros for a room (2 single beds) in a house featuring 4 such bedrooms, 2 showers, 2 toilets, and a fully equipped kitchen (2 fridges, an oven, lots of crockery and pans). No breakfast served of course. The other guests included 4 people travelling together, so it was a bit noisy, but I'm used to that at home, and it was so nice to have a room for me alone, with a key too! Not much to do in Redon though, walks along the canals and the river and in the fields, and a small museum about commercial river-boating. Not possible to travel around by coach either, so I'd recommend staying several days only if you have a car otherwise you'll be bored.
