Stayed there once in 2005, en route to the "Far West". Staff was lovely, room clean but a bit chilly at night (near the canal). They must get mosquitoes in the summer. Short tube ride from the railway station + short walk to the historical center. Will definitely stay again!

I stayed there in March 2005 for a few days. Firstly, its pretty far out of Rennes' centre so allow a 15mins walk from the metro station (St. Anne). It is close to some cheap food places like kebab shops though. Some of the staff were really friendly and helpful, others weren't at all but everyone is polite.The rooms are quite ordinary, clean, no lockers, but the doors lock and you have to walk past reception to go to the rooms. Pretty institutional atmosphere, but it has kitchen, laundry and breakfast.

This hostel was okay--about a 1/2 hr walk from the train station, and not really in the middle of Rennes. It's a bit run down, but clean enough. No lockers. Not a whole lot of atmosphere, either--pretty institutional. Overall, it was safe and okay, but I've definitely stayed in better hostels with more character for the same price.

This hostel is in a pretty location over a canal. You can walk around town fairly easily from it, but it's not in the center of town. The best part about this hostel was the kitchen that is filled with friendly people. There is also a TV room that is packed with people each night.

The price was affordable at 12 or 13 euros, and breakfast was included.. but, there was no atmosphere.. did not meet any other people.. location was ok.. but, not too close to the town center. Overall.. if you are on a budget.. it is an ok place to stay.. but, if you can afford more.. you can undoubtedly find something better.
