Amboise is a little town so everything is walkable. This hostel, which has the HI stamp on it, is on an island, a 5 minute walk across the bridge to Amboise. I'd stay here again for sure. Stayed 2 nights. First night a single room for 9 euros with a view of the river! Had to switch the second night into a 6 bed room but again, an even better view of the river and the chateau. maintenance, cleanliness. Very good.bathrooms: totally shared. some funny smelling ones. Hot showers! toilets with seats! Soap provided! Decently cleanthe room: Ask for a room for the number of people in your party. they have singles! Windows open to outside. bunks come with a pillow and blanket. Bring your own sleeping sheet or rent. Rooms have sinks and closets. No lockers.facilities: ping pong table in activities room, no kitchen. Dining room is where breakfast can be purchased the night before. security. Great. open access until 8 pm. after that you need a pass card to enter. rooms are unlocked by normal keys - each person gets one. Person at reception most hours. The reception people where helpful. Not much of a social atmosphere here in May. There was a large French tour group (of middle aged and seniors) staying here when i visited. I liked this hostel a lot. If only there was more to do in the Amboise area or i didn't mind seeing endless chateaus i'd have stayed longer.

It's located in the Loire Valley. The Hostel, which has more of a hotel feel to it, is located on an 'island' surrounded by a river. The rooms are fairly large. The bathrooms and showers are separate (outside the rooms). As for the location, that is the main thing I liked about it. It's close to everything. 15 min. walk from the train station, 10 min. into town (where the Chateau is).I recommend it, and would allow 1-2 days stay in Amboise, as it gets a bit boring after that.
