We lived in a double room. This is a good hostel and I would stay here again. You can't expect more for that price. The staff is so friendly and helpful, the breakfast is good, The rooms were generally nice and clean with a balcony. The only downside is that the kitchen is quite dirty and untidy. But you have a fridge in the common room that is clean. Tours is a beautiful city and the hostel is close to the river and a nice square with resturants and bars.
Pros:
Near the Loire castles
Cons:
Gungy kitchen + unfriendly staff

Stayed there once in 2004. Was appalled by the state of the kitchen: the filthiest one I've ever seen in 12 years of backpacking!
Most of the guests took a look and decided to eat out, a very determined young girl bought her own pans and crockery (but she travelled by car)! Single rooms, showers + toilets outside (a little rundown). Very long, draughty corridors, which echo noises. Lots of groups (school age etc.) so lots of slammed doors... About 25' on foot from railway station and quite near the sights in Tours. Staff won't book you up unless you give them your credit card number + quite rude. Whatever the season, hostel often full due to all the groups. I won't stay there a second time, I've found a nice hotel in Saumur, and I shall commute by train

Stayed here in March 2005. Its a 15mins walk from the train station or u can walk 5 mins to the bus stop. The area has lots of cafes, an internet/call centre, laundromat and is near the shopping area. Staff are friendly and helpful. The hostel does have a creepy hospital feel and I was travelling alone so it wasn't very cosy for me! I did get a 2 bed room all to myself tho! And it was quite well furnished and clean. Hard to work out what all the doors are coz not many labels and I only found a tiny kitchenette with what looked like a camping stove and a microwave. Didn't manage to find the common area either! Might have been one but the empty echoing hallways were a bit discouraging. Breakfast is good and has a nice variety for a change. Would stay again if I was travelling with someone.

I stayed here for a couple of nights. If you're coming from the train station, you have to take a bus (it's too far to walk). It's located by the local univeristy, surrounded by supermarkets (across the street), restaurants, clubs, and bars. The hostel itself has a really homie feel to it. It's a fairly large 2-story building. It has a large kitchen with everything you will need to cook and eat, large lounge area with TV, foos-ball, and a courtyard in the back. They also serve a good breakfast in the morning which expands from your regular bread and juice. It has yogurt, cereal, fruits, and many types of juices. It's a bit out of the beaten path from regular backpackers' routes. As far as the city of Tours go, ah definately charming. A place where you can see more locals than tourists. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in the area.

Firstly, there is no bus stop "Vieux tours" like you would assume from their website, so I missed the stop. When I asked which stop would be the best to get off at, the reception clerk didn't answer, I guess I'll have to figure that out myself. Secondly, the hallways are so dark it's hard to find your room, the bathrooms don't contain sinks, aren't marked, and everything looks in need of a really good scrubbing. Also, one of the bathrooms has a nice flood going on in it, but that doesn't appear to bother the hostel runners. Tons of dead bugs in the corner of my room, nice. Denied that I made reservations, but I did. The place is certainly not homey in the least, rather, it has the feel of a really creepy hospital or warehouse. Am on the hunt for a new place to stay tomorrow.

I stayed 3 nights. It's quite a nice place. You get a wash basin in your room, and I had two beds although I was travelling alone. There was also a tiny balcony. Toilets and showers were shared, and OK. Reception was a little bit slow, but otherwise pleasant. It's one of the few hostels that actually replies if you fax them! The place seems geared towards school groups, though I think there are quite a few permanent residents living there and going to the local university. Corridoors were sort of long and dark, and it felt a little bit like a hospital. I left early every day, and was back late, so I didn't really check out the common areas too much. However, my impression was that this place may not be that good for meeting other backpackers. The internet computers are not very good. Breakfast is quite good and its free. It's 24h so no problem coming back late - you get a card that lets you in the front door. They don't have dorms, only private rooms. Compared with Paris, prices are very reasonable. Location is quite good - about 15min walk from the station (I didn't bother with the bus) and in a good area of town from the point of view of restaurants and shops. All in all, I'd recommend staying here. [NB. I speak reasonably decent French, so I'm not sure if anything would have been different if I was speaking English.]

146 beds in single and double rooms.TV room on the first floorBreakfast room on the second floor.Information is hard to find and notices are few and far between. It took me a while to figure out that the doors with no numbers on them are showers and toilets.Cooking equipment available and food stores are just outside (open to 11.00pm)Bars and small cafes of all sorts are in the neighbouring streets.Internet Cafe in Rue du Grande Marché (200 metres) opposite Murphy's Irish Bar. Internet access and very cheap international telephone calls. At the bottom of Rue du Grande Marché, in Place de la Victoire there is a Cyber Pressing - wash your clothes and surf the net t the same time
