This place is so good that I would return to Nimes just for the hostel and the friendly staff. The place is clean, cheap, beautifully located, and with incredibly friendly and considerate staff. I was made to feel more like part of the family, than just another traveller passing through. They have an excellent bar, which opens late (later if you get to know the staff), and plays excellent music, with requests. You can buy beer from the bar, or supply your own from the fridge, they don't mind either way. They also serve food, which is excellent value. The only downside is the walk into town, but you won't care about that once you get there. I can't wait to go back!

This was definitely the best hostel I stayed in, and all the other travellers I met there said the same thing. The only downside is that it's quite a hike out of town at the top of a hill, but then loads of hostels are out of town at the top of a hill. You can get a bus to within 500m and being out of town means that they've got room for gardens and they don't have to worry about annoying the neighbours. There's a really great atmosphere, with cheap food and drink available, a kitchen and really friendly staff. I arrived on a really hot day and had to slog up the hill to get there. As I dumped my bag in reception and started rummaging for my reservation number, the guy on reception immediately got some chilled water out of the fridge and poured me a glass, which was a nice touch. They also tend to have music playing a lot of the time, music from all over the world which gives it a nice, multi-cultural feel. If you use the payphone beneath the speaker though, stuff will always turn the volume down a bit, which again is just an example of them being considerate towards your needs.Other people have commented on the facilities so I won't go into details, but generally it's a well-equipped, smart, clean, secure hostel, where they actually seem to take travellers' needs into account.

This hostel is high above the city, but the bus services get you close to the place, or close enough to hike uphill for 15 minutes. If you catch the airport bus into town, tell the driver you're staying at the Auberge Jeunesse and he will make a special stop for you!The setting is beautiful, in a botanical garden with lots of trees and bushes. In the evening it's really relaxing. The best accommodation is the little chalets in the garden. On the other hand you can sleep in a tent if you want to save money. The kitchen is small and inadequate when more than a few people want to cook, so eat early or late. The atmosphere is very friendly. We had kids with us and everyone was very welcoming.

The aubérge at Nimes is everything a hostel should be with the big downer of being in the outskirts.Nevertheless while heading on foot to town (30min) you have to pass accross the gorgeous town park. While being a bit isolated the staff compensates by being one of the nicest I've ever met and they sometimes provide theme dinners (!).Nîmes being a town with a vast and gorgeous roman inheritance it was only suitable we had a roman dinner.Nîmes is as quiet as gorgeous and offers a contemporary cultural program (carré d'art) as an historic one (old town). The hostel has a small garden with some bungalows and dorms are everything good dorms should be :warm, clean and quiet.

Great city with a great hostel. Yes it is a bit out of town, dont walk it with your packs thats for sure, take the bus. You will still have a big uphill walk. The environment is very beautiful, very natural, with trees and plants everywhere. I have had an indoor room and an outdoor bungalow. Both are great, but the bungalow came with the bathroom facilties. clean spacious, safe, you have your own key, so you feel really safe. Rooms only have four people, which is nice, and teh staff is helpful and nice. This is a great place to visit a lot of great other places, especially since this place was so cheap. Dont forget to visit the Pont de Garde from the city of Nimes. Have a great stay, you'll enjoy it.

The youth hostel is situated a little outside the city, so it might be better to take the bus (no 2). It is situated in as really beautiful park where you find all sorts of plants, with signs on them so you can learn a lot. This hostel is really extremely nice. You stay in small houses which consist of a room with two double beds (with cupboards) plus its own shower and toilet. Everything is new, practical and very nice. You even have a small terrace behind your room where you might sit on warm evenings. Much nicer is to sit in the common area. Tables and chairs are outside in the park and you easily get into contact with your fellow travellers. You can buy salads and warm meals from the hostel at very reasonable prices as well a alcoholic or non alcoholic drinks. If you prefer you can also use the well equipped kitchen to cook your own meal. As you have your own key you can go in and out as you like, only the reception is closed for a few hours during the day. As Nimes is a town with many interesting things to look at, it's really worth staying at this hostel!
