BUG Review
This hostel is in Clichy, a quiet suburb just on the outskirts of Paris. It is an HI hostel, so it is cheap if you have an HI card. It has more character than a lot of other HI hostels in Paris, with a nice kitchen, a bar, and a colourful common room. But it’s not very well maintained- the bathrooms are pretty dirty, and the rooms are almost depressingly bare and badly ventilated. Its not too far out from the city if you can’t find anything else.

Prices are in euro and are inclusive of all taxes.

Not my best hostelling experience but acceptable, January 2, 2007

I have never felt so institutionalised and unwelcome than I did during my stay at this hostel. There is a uniformed security man standing behind the door directing all entrants to report to the front desk and telling people off for not depositing their keys with the reception before they step out of the hostel for any reason. I finally understood the reason for that after reading some of the comments on this website on the security incidents at the hostel a couple of years ago. But the current arrangement does create a highly unfriendly environment.

Facility-wise, the lack of bedside lamps created a lot of inconvenience. But what really drove me insane was the slowness of the lift. It could easily take 5-10 minutes for the lift to arrive, and very often I'd rather take the stairs from ground floor when I was in a hurry, eg. when I needed to get to my room before the 11am curfew - and I lived on the 8th floor!

The toilets weren't great either. One toilet consistently smelt like dried urine, ran out of toilet paper (for that particular cubicle) for one day, and another toilet had no door. One sink was blocked for the whole duration of my stay (3 nights).

Its remoteness from all the action in town is also a bit unfortunate, as it is not within a reasonable walking distance especially on a cold and rainy winter night. The metro line (13) that goes near the hostel was not one of the those left open on New Year's morning. As a result we were unable to return to the hostel after 1.45am, and were stuck for 2.5 hours in the transport system.

i stayed here for three days and all that time i wanted to leave as soon as possible, but didn't because i didn't want to spend any extra money. the neighborhood of clichy is a rather ugly, boring neighborhood which is rather far away from the main attractions (about 20 min from the city center). on top of that the place was filthy (the bathroom floor was flooded), the sheets were like cardboard paper, and the floors were disgusting. do NOT book here! choose some other place and research hostels unless you want to have a terrible time!

This place is great. It's clean, the beds are really comfortable, sheets are included in the price, breakfast is simple but good (and served until 10am!), no curfew, the staff are super helpful and nice (and speak many languages too!), and the kitchen is well equiped and clean. It's definately not luxurious (the showers were cold and the hallways unheated), but as a hostel goes this one is great. It's also right beside a metro line (about 20 minutes to downtown), and I felt safe walking alone at night from the metro to the hostel. The double rooms are the same price as the single rooms, and when I requested a double room for my boyfriend and myself the staff went out of their way to help, assigning us to triple room all to ourselves. All in all, I really enjoyed my experience and highly recommend staying here.

Hey - we stayed there for three nights - and it was ok. Nothing special - but the beds were well, the showers clean and anyone had his own cabin to shower. The breakfast was enough and the stuff friendly.

Don't let fear yourself by reading these worse recommends. We liked it. And by metro it's only 20 Min. away (1 change of trains) to the city-center. And the price suites also.

Why not stay there?

This place is foul. I stayed in a 2 bed room which was filthy, and the sheets were dirty and stained. The mixed sex toilets were covered in graffiti, and the doors had no locks. There was always at least an inch of water on the floors in the showers due to blocked drains, and the showers were cold. A plus point was breakfast, which was included, and the staff, who seemed quite friendly. There were cooking facilities, but I would hardly call it a kitchen. Honestly, don't bother.

I was there with my 7year old daughter, who only had to pay half price. There are plenty of rooms here, so you can always call this place when if you get desperate. We found it to be o.k. The walls needed painting, but the sheets were clean and the bed was comfortable. THe place was safe and quiet. We got a good nights sleep and the price was RIGHT. We wouldnt want to LIVE there or anything, but it was fine. Close to the Maire de Clichy subway line and the tourist info. office. THis place is definitley not for fussy travelers. The bathrooms were a little gross, I must say. Whatever.

This hostel is far from the city centre, located in a quite doggy area of Paris, more than 20 minutes by metro, in a busy tube line.

The building is old, with many floors, corredors and rooms - never refurbished for sure! The showers and bathrooms are dirty and the place to prepare food well, I can't even call it Kitchen.

But the worst thing was the noise at night, you can listen everything that happens in the other rooms and also from outside because there is a busy avenue very close to this hostel. It was impossible to sleep before 4 a.m everynight and I must say that I was tired enough to sleep even with loud noise!

My only star goes for the breakfast, is okay and nothing to complain about. Conclusion: try to avoid this hostel if you can.

After a trip through 7 countries in Europe staying at hostels throughout the trip, this was the worst hostel we stayed at. The kitchen, lobby and common area are mayhem with children running about screaming. The pubic hairs on the bedding were quite gross. The showers and bathrooms were disgusting as well. This is a cheap hostel for a reason. I was quite dissappointed with HI on this particular hostel. Oh yeah... and the first three floors are inaccessable because they appear to be some type of youth home.

I was going to stay here in August 2002 but ended up leaving and staying elsewhere. The rooms were okay but a bit stark. But we thought we'd give it a go anyway. We ended up leaving because of the disgusting condition of the showers and toilets. It had to be the most dirty bathrooms I have ever seen. Which is terrible considering that I have travelled in the middle east and parts of Asia. When we informed the staff, they didn't seem to care. We decided to leave because we were scheduled to stay there for four nights and couldn't see going that long without using a toilet or a shower. There are a lot more decent hostels in Paris. Don't waste your money on this one.

I've been to Paris in august 2002 and stayed for two nights in this hostel. It's comfortable and clean, with a helpful and nice staff, but I must say its kitchen is a mess (where people steal all the food you leave). Breakfast is simples but tasteful (as a hostel one should be!); don't expect too much. It also has a laundry, but I haven't used it.

Anyway, it's really close to the Metro (Mairie de Clichy, line 13) and you can get there by bus too (Paris public transports are really good), but the hostel is a little bit far from most famous places.
