BUG review
Knowledgeable and friendly staff are a perk at this brilliant hotel-turned-hostel in a quaint and convenient part of Montmartre. The rooms are clean and airy, all with en suite bathrooms and comfortable beds. Security could be improved as there are no lockers in the rooms (causing a build-up of backpacks in the lobby), but it is in a very safe neighbourhood and has a relaxed atmosphere, camera surveillance, and keys for each guest. Common areas are limited to a tiny kitchen and a small lounge area next to the reception that has a TV and free internet access (including Wi-Fi). There is a much larger breakfast room downstairs that would make a great common area, but unfortunately this room is only open during breakfast, which is the standard French hostel fare of bread, jam, and cereal, with unlimited coffee and tea. It is a good option for the budget traveller who is looking for a clean and quiet place to relax after a long day of sightseeing.

Overall, this hostel was a decent choice in Paris. The room was a little cramped and not entirely clean, but very quiet. There were no lockers, although the staff did keep valuables behind the desk during the day, and let us stack luggage in the lobby. The common area was not very large, and was usually crowded. The hostel was in a great location -- not central, but a few blocks from the metro, near restaurants and grocery stores, and a few minutes' walk from Montmartre and Sacre-Coeur. Breakfast was included.

I know people usually say that you get what you pay for, but I have stayed in much better places in other cities in Europe for the same prices or even a bit cheaper. It's not all bad, the beds are good but a little bit noisy, the shower is good, and the hostel is really close to Montmartre. On the other hand the room didn't seem to be cleaned so often, there were no elevator and the wi-fi connection is kind of bad on the top floor (where was my room). The heating actually broke when I was there but they were fixed it quickly. If you can't find I better place to stay you'll be ok here, but this hostel definitely wouldn't be my first choice.

This place is ok if you just want a place to sleep and a wifi connection. If you are looking for a more social experience go elsewhere.
Quiet place, not at the center of the city but its fine, a nice place to stay. 4 September 2008
Pros:
it´s near the sacre couer, its quiet, you make some new friends
Cons:
The receptionists are not so nice dealing with you, but it doesn´t matter most

The only thing i didn´t like being there was that two nights it was allowed a extrange guy that apparently was a homeless or a drunk man, i think they must select the people who is going to get into the hostel, but despite that, I had no problems, i met some very interesting people from australia and from russia, and another thing was that there were no place for keeping your pack, nor a room neither a looker.but as I told before, just go, if you are afraid or you have no experience going to hostels I recommend you to go, it´s ok, dont worry be hugies!!! hehehehe

We stayed in Caulaincourt Hostel for 5 days and I definitely stay there again when I come to Paris next time! It's very close to the Metro station, central on Montmartre close to Sacre Ceur and Moulin Rouge. The rooms are small but very nice and clean and were cleaned every day during lock out from 11-16. The staff were very friendly, helpful and spoke good English. The breakfeast was also good. But the kitchen was very small (but a social meeting place :D) and lacking in equipment, but the staff bought us some new things when asked. There is a curfew at 2 am :( The lobby was always full of young backpackers and the general athmosphere was good with people from all over the world. All and all probably one of the best hostels in Paris!

First let me say I would be happy to return to this hostel. It is close to the Metro and the MontMartre area is a very pleasant stroll away. So it is a good base for a tourist wanting to see Paris. The day time lock out policy restricts you to using the common areas between 11am & 4pm - but then you would be out exploring the city at that time. I sensed the rooms are of varying size and standard - mine was a 4 share with a bathroom - although there are larger dorms without private facilities. Nice touches are the included breakfast and the 30 minute internet usage given on booking in.It is a interesting buiding built onto the side of the hill - the wooden starcases are narrow and can be noisy - as was some of the plumbing. It was being decorated whilst I was there (end May 07). The breakfast room can be cramped at peak times. The area for self catering is small and basic -- fridge / microwave.Reception staff were friendly.... it always helps if you are friendly and greet them as well.Security well I was happy enough - Ok you don't have lockers available - but the rooms are lockable and they only let out 1 key per room - access to the hostel is via the front and the reception desk seemed to be always manned by responsible people. The surrounding neighbourhood is well maintained and appeared very safe.Overall a well run hostel.
Absolutely disgusting! don't stay here! My mum, sister and I had to book a single room and a double and we were in the hotel part (it was even worse than the grosest hostel!) first of all we were annoyed because the double room had a double bed plus a single so we were paying for the single room when we could have all fitted in the double. Also the Single room had 3 single beds- weird. anyway both rooms absolutely stunk and we felt very unsafe in them, sleazy staff and windows that anyone could have gotten into. the bathroom door has a glass window from top to bottom so you can see in and we looked around for hidden cameras. anyway my sister and i were staying in the single room and we discovered that none of the sheets had been cleaned. there were hairs on them and stains it was disgusting. this was later at night and we didn't feel safe going to complain so we all slept in the double bed because it wasn't AS dirty. there is nowhere for people to hang here. the reception area has the internet with a couch so people hang there with their alcohol so whilst your trying to find someplace else to stay in paris you have drunks sleazing onto you. no common room to hang in. Do not give this place one cent of your money!

I stayed at the Hotel Caulaincourt Square in March, 2005. As mentioned in the other reviews, great location and great price! The desk staff was friendly and spoke decent english. There are 3 free internet computers in the lobby, high speed connections....great for sending emails fast, etc. The visitors were all young travelers, mostly american from what I saw. The room was small but with a nice street view. The shower was hot with strong pressure! the bed was ok but not spectacular. Definitely have the breakfast, nice cheap way to start the day. I stayed in a single room. This would be a good place for couples or single travelers seeking a separate room. Beware the 2 a.m. curfew. It's kind of tucked around the corner off the main street (get off the subway, go up the stairs, turn right on rue caulaincourt, walk about two blocks, there is a nice cafe on your right....just tucked around the corner is the hotel). I also stayed at the Regyn's Montmartre which is very close and has a Eiffel Tower view for a bit more money. I will probably stay at both again when I return.

I stayed four nights here in June, and would stay here again. The staff was helpful and spoke perfect English. The rooms were clean, but the bathroom could use a little work. This hostel is close to the metro, and in a beautiful neighborhood with a great bakery, grocery store and laundry very close by.
