Pre booked for 2 people but they spilit us into 2 dorms on arrival. The one I stayed in had nice people in it but it was a dump and noisy. Its in a seedy area of town and the only benefit being that we could leave and get to the station quickly in the morning as its just round the corner.Stay anywhere else.

No, you didn't book at Antares, you are staying at their "sister" hotel, Bacarrat. Here are Bacarrat you will find unfriendly staff, no lockers, no lights in the rooms, and cold showers. Welcome! And, although we are close to the train station, we are in an unsafe area (our car was parked right outside and was broken into). We say our cerfew is at 3, but we lock the doors at 1:30, because the man at the front wants to go to sleep! All in all, its a dump and would never recommend it to anyone.

Found this place last minute in mid-July 04 and was pleasantly surprised. Very convenient for train arrivals a huge benefit in Nices summer heat and an easy walk to the beach. The bunkbeds were rickety and packed in but the private bathroom off the dorm was clean. This is a drop zone for Bus About so everyone else in my room was traveling that way and arrived and left together. Near lots of shops and has good social spaces.

I was there in Nov 2003. I called a day ahead, and was able to get a reservation. I was traveling with a friend, and upon arrival was given a choice of a double room instead of the dorm. For 20euros each we got the double. The room is spacious, comfortable beds, warm blankets, TV, and private washroom with shower. The halls are clean, lobby is clean, and the manager is friendly. There is a curfew between 3-6 am. However, if you do not make it before 3am. There is a buzzard to ring for the night attendant. He may not be too happy, but nonetheless will opened the door. I didn't find that there was alot going on that late at night anyway. As most places didn't open til late into the night. The bars are opened, but I think most close around 1:30 - 2am. The most convenient thing about this place is that it takes 2 mins to find when arriving in Nice, and is again convenient when leaving nice. Close to the train station, and the airport connection bus (#99) in front of the train station.Overall, no problems with the place itself, staff, or the management. I would consider staying here again.

I tell ya...this place pulled a fast one on me(there in late May 2003). I got off the train(coming from Cinque Terre in Italy), I didn't arrive until mid-afternoon(because I didn't exactly understand the train transfer in ventimiglia(you can hop on any train that brings you to nice...just not those that say NICE specifically...or so I was told by a California group that I met at a restaurant in Ventimiglia as I spent some hours waiting for my train to Nice)). So anyhow...I had been warned before that it was tough to find accomadation in Nice...and arriving late in the day, with nothing booked...I found myself in that predicament.About 4pm local time I arrived...first stop Hotel Antares. I spoke in my broken French(took a year in college...got B's) if they had any open rooms...the lady said no but called Hotel Baccarat and said they DID have dorm rooms. So she escorts me through the courtyard joining the 2 hotels. I'm tired of speaking broken french so I say in English, "do you have dorm rooms?" The man working the desk asks me if I have a passport? I think great...all those people who warned me about lodging were WRONG...I'm going to get a dorm bed right 10 minutes after I got off the train. However, the guy takes a loot at my passport...and says "Single room, 40 euros." I'm like "that's too much"...and I walk away through their front door not knowing exactly what happened to my dorm room promised by the lady from Hotel Antares. So I walk the streets...looking for other hostels...but there are signs "NO VACANCY" all around. So I find an internet cafe and go to bugeurope to look up other places to stay...check off the ones I already stopped by. Chez Patrick I hadn't checked yet...so I looked for it...I found the street it was on...but the street numbers didn't exactly make sense...they'd jump around. When I finally found it, a girl just came out...and said the place was full, she JUST got the last bed. At this point, I just sat down...and throught where am I going to sleep? No place has an open room. I even started to cry a little bit. This wasn't very fun 2 hours after I arrived I didn't have a room. I didn't exactly understand the phone booths there...or where to get a calling card(which they only use...no coins)...so I couldn't call any other hostel outside of town to see if they had rooms. I was about to go back to the Cinque Terre when I decided to give one more look through Nice's whindy streets. I saw 2 men talking outside...and noticed a sign that said "Dorm 18 euro". I asked if they had a room and the guy, who was really nice...said "YES". I was so happy I booked for 3 nights...he told me about what the place had and I paid the man 54 euro....happy to have a bed. I decided to look at the kitchen...but something was very strange. I HAD BEEN THERE BEFORE...how could this be? It was the courtyard that joined the 2 hotels. I had gotten a room with the place that said they DIDN'T have any DORM rooms. I must not have noticed it was the same place, for I walked out Baccarat's front door and this time I walked in their front door...the scenery looked different. I WAS VERY UPSET...but what could I do? there was no place else to stay in town and I just paid the man(a different guy working the desk from when I first came in). I figured the first guy at the desk, when he looked at my passport saw that I was an American and turned me away or tried to get an EXTRA 22 euros (the difference for a single). So yeah...that tainted my stay at this place. I won't return and advise EVERYONE who enjoys HONEST accomadators to STAY AWAY AS WELL. Other notes about this place. -They do have a 3am curfew(some reviews say they don't). -Their outside kitchen area closed at 8pm...which wasn't good because that is the only place to meet people.-A lot of busabout people stay here. That means a lot of people who stay here already know each other(from travelling on busabout) and really don't want to get to know anyone new. Thankfully, I met some Australian and New Zealander ladies and I hung out with them my first night. -Trip to Monaco? Don't waste your time...boring place. -The beach is the only REASON to go to Nice. You only need ONE FULL DAY though...so plan on staying in Nice 2 nights or 1 night and take a night train to somewhere else more interesting(unless you really love the beach, or hook up with some cool people). Overall, if I were to ever return to Nice...I'd book ahead with Chez Patrick(they have the best reviews on bugeurope).I'd stay away from Antares/Baccarat at all costs. Prejudice employees aren't worth dealing with.

Aug 03. Would not take advance booking for one person. 18 euro per person. Mixed dorms, six beds. Curfew 3-6am. Bathroom attached with one shower - at least there was privacy to get dressed. They give you a tiny towel each!

We stayed in a 6-bed dorm room, which in reality was a tiny hotel room that the money hungry mngmnt decided to cram 3 bunks into. The result is searing heat in the night, loud noise in a confined area, and smelly people. The bathroom was scummy around the edges and they didn't even bother to put a lock on the door.We were unfortunate enough to be put into a room with three drunk Americans, who, at 3 AM, decided to yell at each other about how "pissed" they were. The key system is also terrible, because there is only one (it's a card system), and when someone uses the key and it's in the room, the management expects you to knock on the dorm door and have the people inside let you in. This unfortunately happened at 3 AM, when the drunk Americans wanted to be let in, waking the 3 of us up. Go home, college boys!We got our money back for the second night we'd paid for and got a double for much cheaper than the 18 Euro each we'd paid for this hole in the ground.

I was originally booked into the hotel antares which is just next door but upon arrival i was moved into hotel baccarat where they put me in the wrong room. Despite this confusion, the rooms were basic but quite clean however the drains in the showers did not work very efficiently. The rooms were cleaned regularly however. The two hotels had a cute courtyard area where everyone cooked and chatted away. Therefore it was a great place to meet new people. On the down side the owners of the hotel were very fussy about noise even at 6pm and there was a 3pm curfew which was quite strict. The hotel had a great location right near the train station so it allowed you to make trips into monte carlo and it was also only a 10 min walk from the beach and right near some great restaurants. Overall if you are happy with basic but clean accomodation stay here because it is well located and quite cheap. If you want service and all the trimmings stay elsewhere.

No lockout or curfew. If you're just staying in Nice to explore other parts of the Riviera, it's proximity to the train station is ideal. It seemed fairly clean. There's nothing particularly outstanding about this place but nothing really bad either.
