My boyfriend and i stayed in a large spacious room. It was perfect for what we were looking for. The staff were helpful and provided us with everything we needed. The balcony was a lovely feature to our room, it meant we could sit out and have breakfast or at night time with playing cards and wine. Interesting views of old people in their underwear in the apartments over the road though. We had a laugh!!!It was cheap too.

I stayed in this hotel with my girlfriend. One night we couldn't unlock the front door and after much stress, had to book into a nearby expensive hotel in the middle of the night. The next night, having got back into the place, the hotel porter broke into our room and sexually assaulted us both (he confessed to the police and got off with a warning!). I would strongly recommend you avoid this hotel!

I picked this place out of my guidebook, and I wouldn't stay there again. It was grungy, with absolutely no common area, no breakfast. Also, if you stay out late (allowed) you will be lucky if you get in again! My friend and I spent forty minutes on the porch trying to open the giant door; we finally succeeded with both of us leaning our body wights on the door. Thought we were going to cry....

Why?

- a lot of flees in the beds, even though you sleep in a sleeping bag linen! You get big, red bites and you scratch yourself almost to death. The doctor meant it was spiderbits..

- the guards at night is sitting right outside your door JERKING OFF, *pjuk*

- it is extreeme dirty, i bet they haven`t washed the floor since 1880..

- the shower is insanse, it is about 10 cm x 15 cm so you lose your breath while taking a shower in the corner of the room (!)

- we went out for having breakfast, and I forgot my papers so I went in again, and the door which we had locked stood wide open and people were wandering in and out among our private things. The people were unfortunately not washers, but the horny night guard, the shabby, tattoed owner and a sweat old man, an "electrician" without a diploma..

Yeye. we moved..

I wound up at this hostel after travelling solo through Spain for days: the owner was friendly at 6:15 am when I arrived weary from my train travels. Shared a cramped room with four others (two couples in two double beds) but made GREAT friends from it and stayed four days longer than anticipated. This place is cheap, steps from the train station, 10 minutes from la cote d'azur, and a melting pot of nationalities. Despite the lumpiest mattress I've ever slept on and the multiple mosquito bites (August, no A/C, slept under the window), it was an all-around good hostel and great personal experience. I returned 3 years later, however (on a whim, post-Italy), and couldn't get a room...MAKE A RESERVATION! Even if only a week on advance.

Now, dont be decieved by the name of this place, 'hotel' les orangers is deceptive from the start!

We stayed in a double bed in a dorm - this seemed strange enough but we lived with it, although the location is prety good this place is a little seedy. We had an interesting experience where a guy - we had no idea who he was - came into our room while we were sleeping and closed all the windows and doors and then lay on the floor when he heard someone move. Naturally we didnt stay here for very long after this!

Apart from this the rooms are clean (ish) but a little cramped, the guy on reception was very helpful and its a great base for monte carlo trips - (near to the station). However, the security in the place in questionable and there arent any common areas to meet new people. We wouldnt go back!!

We wanted to make a reservation in this hotel for one night. No chance - they don't accept a reservation for less than two nights. However, they gave me a phone number of another hotel (which is, of course, much more expensive).

This place is very convenient, especially if you're using Nice as a base to do day trips to Monaco and Caanes and stuff...

The owner is great and very helpful, there's a ton of asian food places that are pretty cheap in the area.

As for the rooms, they're OK. Showers in the rooms is definately strange, and the fridge wasn't plugged in in the room I was in. I was backpacking on my own for this part of the trip, and seeing there was no common area or anything, you only met the people in your room (room of five). So keep that in mind.

Otherwise, Nice is beautiful, and had a good time. Judging by the recommendations of the Belle Meuniere, would probably stay there next time, only that place is closed in December and January...

We have just stopped here as a group of 7. We had a room of 4 and a room of 3 which we pre-booked, good job because it was full every night. The owner, Marc, was very helpfull and spoke excellent English so getting advice is very easy and he was willing to let us store our bags all day after we had checked out.

The hotel is a bit tatty in places with old decoration but that is what you get at about 15 euros per night which proved good value. The rooms were fairly big with large windows to help with the heat. They were cleaned each day had fridges and some plates, bowls etc (fantastic idea).

Our only moan really was with the shower arrangements with them being sort of built into the corner of the room which doesn't offer too much privacy from the rest of your roomates.

With the abundance of budget hotels around the train station this is a good bet. Good price, clean rooms, nice owner.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and it was great. It is opposite the train station so you dont have to lug your bags around, you can store them there for free when you wait to check in (if you're early arriving) or if you are checking out. You can get to anywhere fast from here, and we got a great room at the top floor which had windows on both sides so you could open them up and get a great through flow breeze. The room was also huge and had a fridge!!!
