Freiburg is a beautiful little city and I am surprised that it won't support more than one hostel. The Black forest provides adequate facilities. free internet. But the place was noisy and a bit cramped. The upkeep could be better and for the price i have seen better hostels for a couple euro more.

Freiburg is one of the most beautiful towns in Europe, let alone Germany. Its small town charm, amazing architecture and vibrant market give it a fairy tale feel.Locals bike around town, go out to pubs and clubs (it's also a student town) or take their dogs for hikes in the Black Forest. It was only appropriate that someone opened a hostel as the only alternative for backpackers who don't want to stay at another horrible HI hostel, away from the center and crawling with school kids. The Black Forest hostel is definitely the best hostel I've been to in germany. Good clean beds and rooms (cheap too), the aforementioned "space showers", the relaxed atmosphere due to the great common room, filled with musical instruments, books, a ping pong table and sofas (we even projected DVDS on the wall one night) and the staff. They are extremely friendly and will tell you everything you need to know, including nice hikes in the forest. One word of warning: If you have any doubts about your orientation abilities, DO NOT go to the forest by yourself. I paid a high price for doing that. Well it wouldv'e been higher had the staff not been that friendly... Anyway if you're anywhere around Germany you must visit this town and hostel. I can't say enough about it really, and hopefully you'll see me there sometime.

This hostel is really unique and an awesome place to stay! The staff are really nice and they have lots of info on things to do in the Black Forest. There is a large room to hang out in with instruments and a kitchen that you can use. It is also closer to the train station than the other hostel in town, and it is not hard to find. Although it sounds odd, one of the most amazing aspects of this hostel were their showers! you will have to see for yourself :

THIS PLACE IS SO DIFFERENT THAN ANY HOSTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED AT! THE STAFF IS REAL FREINDLY AND HELPFUL. THE PRICES ARE REAL GOOD AND THE HOSTEL ITSELF IS CLEAN,SPACIOUS AND VERY WELL MAINTAINED,I HAVE NEVER SEEN A HOSTEL LIKE THIS BEFORE. THERE IS AN EXCELLENT KITCHEN TO PREPARE FOOD AND A COMMUNITY ROOM. ITS CLOSER TO DOWNTOWN THAN THE OTHER HOSTEL. THERE IS A LIDL SUPERMARKET DOWN THE STREET THAT HAS VERY LOW PRICES FOR FOOD. THE HOSTEL ALSO HAS A LAUNDRY ROOM AND INTERNET ACESS THAT IS VERY REASONABLY PRICED. IF YOUR IN FREIBURG,THIS IS THE PLACE!--ROBERT FROM CALIIFORNIA
