Dirty cramped dorms and joyous communal showers. The only reason it even got one star was the OK breakfast.

It's only because nothing cruel or devious happened at this hostel that it is not getting 1 star. Plus, it had a decent breakfast. Otherwise, this place was a definite disappointment and certainly not worth the extra money you have to pay for the supposed guarantee of having a quality HI accomodation.

Yes, this hostel was filled with video cameras, but that is the only sort of security it had. You could not lock the rooms and there were only a couple of lockers out in the hallways. You had to have your own lock for these, and there were certainly not enough for everyone.

The bathrooms were not fun. There were only two toilets and two sinks for the entire floor (stinky!). The only moderately clean gang showers had no place to put your things. The hot water was not very consistent and came out of one of those showers that you have to keep pressing to get water to come out.

The location really isn't that far from the train station, but it would be a nightmare for anyone who had more luggage than a light backpack. The walk from the station to the hostel is up a steep hill with lots of stairs. Even if you drive or take public transport, you will find over 50 stairs (I can't remember the exact number, but I know I counted) just from the street to the main entrance. Not fun.

The atmosphere of the place is nothing special. I don't remember having any problems with the staff, but no one went out of their way to make our stay welcoming either. The hostel was over-run by groups and also had a lot of crabby "adults" just wanting a cheap place to stay.
